Santa Clause: Troll Hunter by Cindys Arcade

[raw]
made by Cindys Arcade for LD 43 (JAM)

A pack of trolls are hell bent on stopping Santa Clause from delivering presents this Christmas. As Santa, you must fight through the horde and make your way to the rooftops to deliver the presents safely. Throw snowballs at the trolls to knock them out. Get caught, and you will have to sacrifice some of your presents to the troll before he'll release you. Sacrifice too many presents, and there won't be enough to give to every kid on your list. You'll have a few extra presents in case you need them, but they are limited. See if you can finish your route with a perfect delivery record!

Use "A" and "D" to move. "Spacebar" to jump. "Left Mouse" to throw snowballs. "Esc" to quit.

Some Notes About the Game: All graphics and sound assets were downloaded from the Unity Asset Store, so I opted out of these categories. Also, the original plan for the "sacrifice" theme was this: When a troll caught you, he would demand that you sacrifice some presents before he would let you go free. If you chose not to sacrifice the presents, you'd lose health. If you lost all health, it was game over. Unfortunately I ran out of time to implement this correctly so the trolls just steal your presents and run away.

I mean, I guess it's good that you opted out of graphics since it's just a random mishmash of stuff. In the end I had negative presents and a whole bunch of bugging out trolls glitching into eachother, the houses, the walls, ect. The platforming didn't feel particularly good... though I did have some fun with the snowball mechanics just because there's no limiter on how often you can do it so you can just mash the fire button to create entire walls of snowballs.

It did look like you run out of time on this game. The platforming looked a bit clunky. I'd be interested in playing the finished version

Thanks for the feedback! I wish I had made more time to iron out the buggy AI and clunky controls. It's a bit of a mess but I had fun and a good learning experience. My first jam! :)

Sorry mate but this ended up quite unfun to play. The movement is very clunky and irritating and the trolls are just all bugged and often unhittable. The theme is also not quite new or interesting.

Don't let this negative review demotivate you, just keep making games and they will get better with every attempt! I suggest you start by making the movement and basic player control "feel good" because it can ruin a otherwise good game.

Good luck in the future!

Hello, I find that Santa Claus is too slow this affects the accuracy of the gameplay. But for a first jam it's really nice to go all the way :)

@pfs @le-dav Thanks for the honest reviews and I agree with you 100%. I almost didn't submit because of these issues. In hindsight, maybe I shouldn't have lol :)
