You were sitting in your living room, playing a video game and minding your own business until you accidentally ate a RADIOACTIVE CHEETO. Now you are 500 feet tall and must get out of the city while causing as little carnage as possible.

OPT OUTS: I am opting out of graphics, sound and music as they were either from opengameart or randomly generated.

This is my first ldjam, and first game in probably 15 years or so. I've made this using Phaser as I am a JavaScript developer for my normal day job and it seemed smart go with what I know! Other tools used: Tiled, Aseprite, bfxr, Wolfram Tones, Texture Packer, and Photoshop.

Really unique, clever, and simple how you control the shoes. Lots of fun! Also oddly satisfying to go on a bloodlusted rampage after playing the game "for real" a few times...

Is it even possible to get a good time and not kill anyone?

A wonderfully simple concept with great implementation. This game is challenging as those dam Hyoomins seems to really want to die :)

The art style is polished and the controls are very easy to use. I was a bit confuse by the score system at first.

There is also bonus point for the dev sharing the code! Thanks a lot for that.

I had a lot of fun playing it and also finding emergent game play trying to kill them all.

(You can see me playing this game for the first time on the vod https://youtu.be/lXUmif8KKxM?t=1h9m15s )

@faithcaio - it's pretty random sometimes and you can get a good streak. My record is about 22 seconds with no casualties. I meant to add some better AI to make humans scatter, but didn't quite get there this time.

This is actually quite entertaining. I wonder how cops and soldiers could fit in?

Hehe had a lot of fun playing this, I realized after my second play through that you was supposed to kill as few little hooomanz as possible whilst I was aiming for as complete carnage as possible! Makes it a cool game, either get as high time "score" as possible or try to be a nice guy and go for the low score. Great job!

haha, that was great! I like the take on the topic! Also the game even though short it makes you want to do it again and again! Some more levels would be great!

Keep up the good work!

Really natural controls, simple yet hilarious backstory - I reeeaaally didn't want to step on the humans, heh. Awesome job. :)

Simple to pick up, simple to play, and very, very, silly. I like it.

The first time I played this I tried to kill as many people as possible, but then I read the description and saw what the goal was

Control of the shoes feels really good, and when you step down it really feels powerful and clumsy (as if you ate a radioactive Cheeto and became super huge all of a sudden).

Well done!

Haha, great idea. Had some fun not stepping (and stepping) on hyoomins. My best time is 14 seconds, no casualties.

25s and zero humans killed! Then tried the opposite and managed to get 30 of them.. pretty disturbing with the screams and blood, choice of background music adds a strange ambience also. Silly, fun, pretty unusual. Like it.

At first (I didn't read the instructions) I thought I was supposed to crush the people... This was really fun, both playing for the objective and not.

Cool idea! I had a lot of fun playing your game. It would be nice to have a better idea of what's underneath your foot before you put it down.

It's a fun game. At first I had more than 100 seconds time but after several tries I got to 8 seconds without any kills (probably abusing the way the people spawn). I always moved the foot to the upper right corner, when most of the shoe is off-screen and there is no person spawned yet/or they move away). But crushing them is fun too :D.

Ok, definely, you Rock! The first game that I give 5 starts in all... This game is really FUN! I had A LOT of fun playing and trying to not kill any human. I even know what to say... AWESOME job!

You should keep doing this game, and add some power ups, I don't know, the game itself is great! VERY SIMPLE idea, AWESOME game!

Good Job!

It's incredible how fun such a simple idea can be. At first I was a bit disturbed by the graphics and amount of gore but decided to read your post-mortem and finally to give the game a try. The feeling of being a giant is real! I was so wary where I step. The fact that my feet block the sight only adds to the tension. While the sounds are not entirely yours they suit the atmosphere well. I admire how you executed the principals from "Game Jam Survival Guide", your game shows, that it's well thought out.

11 seconds and zero casualties, baby!

On another play I managed to squish 40 humans, is that the maximum? I was hoping for some kind of reward for that :)

I first played this game without sound on and thought it was fun. Then switching to sound makes so much difference, the squishes are brutal! Anyway, great little jam game, just the right size for what it is.

How the _hell_ did I make it through my first playthrough without squashing any hyoomins?!

Made up for it by squashing as many as I could the next round. Only got like 23 though.

Great game! Fun, challenging, simple. :) Congratulations on getting it done in a weekend!

Funny game. It is simple but challenging. After getting to the end with 2 kills and 30 seconds, I tried to kill as many as possible. After I killed 40 humans, they were all gone.

I had fun playing this game. Did you plan to add different kind of people (really bad people, granting bonus point if you smash them for exemple) ?

I'm only disapointed of it beeing so short

Very nice idea, simple anf fun!. I really like the feedback you added when stepping on people. You definitely should consider porting this to mobile devices, a lot of people will have fun playing it. As feedback, I think that you could make it longer, it's a nice gameplay and probably add dangerous stuff like if you step on a spike or a bomb you lose points or something like that. Good game!

The premise of the game is quite crazy :D It has very unique gameplay and it can be very satisfying to reach good scores. Could have used more variety (levels, special hyoomins), though.

Really fun idea and brilliantly executed. The sound is great and really gives the feeling of controlling a giant.

It's a bit short but I replayed it a few times for fun and to beat my score! As for tips I think maybe restrict the distance between feet a bit and make sure the feet are always on the correct side. Different types of people and perhaps buildings and vehicles could be fun additions.

@unit684 One of the original ideas was to have little things like fires that would be happening and you'd get points for stomping them out and keeping them from spreading.

I liked the inversion in your game: You made the protagonist giant so the world itself would be small. I would suggest a punishing mechanic if the player smashes too much people, maybe helicopters come and start firing at the giant or something.
If one plays the game without reading the description he/she would think that the objective is to step on the people, not avoid them, like those smash ants games on mobile.

Really nice game! I liked the simple concept. I think the gameplay could be better if the humans moved in a less random way, maybe followed a pattern. Controls were good and I didn't encounter any bugs. Good job!

Pretty nice game. The idea is original and the gameplay is actually quite fun. It is relatively short so the player is tempted to start over again and try to beat the score. I find a good score depends a lot of luck though, sometimes I just get an empty spot easily and othertimes I don't. Also i can reverse the position of left and right leg (Or stack them together), not sure if it count as cheating or not :p

Really good execution on your innovative idea. Well done!

Love the scream that the people make, there seems to be a bit of a problem that if you let go of a foot when it is slightly over the other one, it can end up going quite far from where it was being dropped. This quite often resulted in people being killed when they wouldn't have done.
🎤 makenai
04. May 2017 · 20:00 UTC
@wevel Ooh, it might bounce back a little too much. It was an intentional feature to keep people from just stepping on their own feet to get off easily - ie, it simulates a stumble and uncontrolled landing. It could definitely be either messaged or fine tuned better though! Thank you for playing!

Unique, funny idea. It seems difficult to purposely get a high score, but some of the other people here seem to have gotten the hang of it, so there must be something I'm missing.

Immediately obvious how to play, and I love the silliness of it. Nice job!

Giant shoes! Here’s the quick rundown of my thoughts:

PROS
- It's a really wacky game
- Functions smoothly

CONS
- Music seems unfitting
- A little difficult to do a no hit run?

I've just killed every single tiny human bean in this game!

The first time I dropped a foot and the screen shook and the hyoomins screamed - I laughed out loud! Great little idea for a game. My best was 18 seconds with only 1 pesky hyoomin killed *right* at the end before the score screen :[
