That's a really smart move, it let me learn on the game much faster and sometimes it created some hilarious situation.
Although this game is about patients and hospital, this is a fun game to play with!
On the gameplay side I feel like the feedback of the nurse could be a bit more clear. But I guess the main part is the story anyway.
I really enjoyed the experience. The topic is hard and real, and I think you did a good job, it didn't seem too cliché or full of pity, it was just about acting, with no space and no time. I saved 42 people, don't know if it's good or not, but for LD42 I think it's a good number ^^'
And I chose to stay the last day if you ever wonder!
About the quality of mechanics, it hard to really tell because I would normally say that there's a lack of feedback on available ressources, but that's what the game is about! The only thing is that I hoped is that I could remember the names of patients better so I could know if they survived or not. But that's also a part of the game, as everything is going so fast you don't have time to know more about people.
So... I'd say frustrating, but in a good way because the situation is frustrating itself IRL and I guess that it is what you wanted to depict. So I think you did a really great job! Oh and before I forget, the audio! It has set the atmosphere so well... heart touching!
Please do check my game maybe you’ll like it and leave some feedback.
The commentary from the nurse is nice, but I would have liked it to be more meaningful. Sometimes the nurse obviously gives you a 'that's the wrong choice' response, but I'm not clear why. I think some games like this have the player choice, then the nurse responds, and then the player can affirm or change their choice based on the response.
Overall, I liked the game though. Quite a bit of work and the backstory, names, belongings, and all the little details help add to the experience.
There was a great focus on making meaningful decisions, I felt the pressure to decide quickly but also wanted to find a way to save as many as I could. The hardest part was turning people away when you ran out of space before the end of the shift.
Is this based on an experience you have?
I imagine that being a triage nurse in a war region must be one of the most stressful situations.
I can't rate your game as fun, but the mechanics are solid. With some polish of voice acting and professional graphics, this could be a compelling experience.
Do you plan to expand it to offer less severe medical conditions?
I hated the ending. I just wanted to help, and the hospital was taken over by insurgents. Is there any "positive" ending that can be unlocked? The I hired Bill Gates, and we saved everyone ending?
The sound is a combination of stock Foley from freesound.org that's been heavily edited in the various programs mentioned in the submission, and Foley I've recorded myself at home.
And thanks to everyone else that commented they liked the sound! It feels great to know that the hours I spent listening to people coughing their lungs out is appreciated <3
