Hint: The non-moving alien-looking objects are weapons that you should look for because the default weapon is bad.

maybe I'm just stupid but my Windows 10 won't run it
Honestly, I don't even know where to begin. Your blatant depiction of violence and murder are quite troubling, not to mention completely inappropriate. Your decision to create a game that encourages killing and the use of guns is not only insensitive, but distasteful. Quite frankly, I am disgusted, and I don't think you comprehend how traumatizing this sort of experience could be for any child or average adult who hasn't been completely desensitized by the media. Your omission of any sort of name for the "enemies" (or are they just innocent civilians? They could be for all I know) downplays the brutal nature of combat and portrays violence in a very unrealistic light, which I find offensive. Your decision to resort to using senseless violence in such a manner is, to tell you the truth, simply pathetic.
Please stick to family-friendly games like Bortman next time, where only stupid, useless pigs with no feelings are killed.
Honestly I have to agree with stevenjmiller here, the main problem with the game is the depiction of violence and murder.
I mean, the backdrop uses such contrasting colors and is so detailed/noisy that some targets are difficult to spot and murder violently. I'd advise using less saturated/contrasting colors in ground tiles, especially in the 7th level to make it easier to brutally combat innocents (all of which are shooting back at you).
Also the use of guns is frankly quite disturbing in its impact on my crappy CPU. Got 5FPS in the last level at times, to tell you the truth the lack of optimization here is quite offensive.
Also beating the final boss and having it play the first sound effect in the game almost made me jump out of my skin lol
@drury who the heck do you think you are beating my game before me?! Also, I haven't fully playtested the latest balance update so maybe I made it too easy... idk, I'll have to check.
edit: hotfix2 fixed the bug!
So my humble opinion is that I suggest you that next time you should try something a little bit easier to work on but that it has it's own thing that makes it super special. That said, I do congratulate you for participating and encourage you to keep getting better at game development, hope my opinion is of some help for you!
I'm not sure it if was an issue on my system (since no one else mentioned it), but the pace of the game was very slow. Also, maybe the started gun should suck a little less ;)
I loved the explosions! Shooting the enemy bullets to create my own safe zone was satisfying. Also, good job on all the bullet patterns! This is one of the aspects I see neglected most often.
Also, for an action-oriented game like this, I would have liked to be able to move or potentially shoot a little faster. Even with the machine gun things felt kinda sluggish.
Overall though, I enjoy top-down games like this, so I still played it through to the end and enjoyed it. :) The boss was especially a surprise!
The mechanics are easy to understand and there is still challenge and variation to keep it interesting.
Also very interesting effect to get those "3D" walls.
You should have opted out of the sound rating, though, since there was no sound in the game - which could've made the experience more engaging. I would also have liked some indication as to what kind of weapon I was picking up. I did not know their properties, so I just stuck with the one that had a continuous fire rate... but, it did seem to kill the monsters slowly.
Good work, and a fun 48 hour game. Keep it up!
Also, the obstacles give it some kind of tactical feel. I enjoyed this way more than I initially thought I would, good job overall!
If you like, please take a look at the game I worked on for the Jam, you can find a link to it in my profile
