Some Seriously Screwed Sheep by PixelFormedStudios

[raw]
made by PixelFormedStudios for LD 40 (COMPO)

Have you ever wanted your own herd of sheep? Too bad! Now you have one!

Manage your very own herd of sheep, keeping them alive to keep expanding your sheep population. But beware, as great danger lies ahead! Who would possibly want to harm a sheep? Play for yourself and find out.

Collect BaaaBucks (pun is very much intended and regretted) to buy more sheep and ensure all of your herd stay alive. Protect them from threats, stopping them from dying. The more sheep you have... the more intense the game becomes!

Controls: Only your mouse is needed, no fancy keys or gamepads. Your herd will automatically follow your mouse, and you can use left click and hold to make your herd run faster towards the mouse.

NOTE: The executable version is much more stable and of better quality. The HTML version has poor sound, poor texture loading, the absence of particles, end game glitches and some methods for randomizing lists and collision checking are different in javascript. I strongly advise playing the executable version.

Neat little game. I didn't quite get the point in buying more sheep though, since it wasn't required to progress or anything. I enjoyed the pixel art though, it looks very nice.

I always managed to spend all my coins right before a freeze came and killed my entire herd, great game!

It's pretty but the coins don't reset after starting a new game.

Good fun! I wasn't exactly sure about the cause for the "red" death. I figured it might have been overheating from having too many sheep in a bunch but it didn't feel consistent enough.

@poshdan Sorry about that being a little vague. That occurs randomly when a sheep mutates and inherits a virus, killing it.

I took some time to figure out where I need to click to start the game. And the game does not reset properly. But apart from that, it's a very fun and beautiful game. Good job!

Good graphics and good topic, but the game balance was very flawed. Sometimes I had no coins spawn at all, and sometimes it rained, but even though I lost not much sheep (probably around 40), I never had 160 coins in total to reach 80 sheep. I struggled around 25 always, and as I said, I got 100 coins at most in the whole duration of the game. And even though I ended with 30 sheep, it said I saved 80 sheep and gave me a reward. Also, the game needs to be much much shorter as it was mostly waiting for something to happen.

Don't let my whole paragraph of feedback fool you, I very much enjoyed the game overall, but it had its flaws in the balance aspect. Maybe you can tweak some values (coin spawns, game duration etc.) so it will be much more enjoyable in the end. Good job :)

@bonelazy very sorry for that, in the most recent build I forgot to turn off debug mode which doesn't set a limit for how many sheep you need and reduces coin spawning. All should be fixed now, thank you for telling me this :)

Art was very cool, and you can see that you gave a good attention to the details of the game, congratulations.

I just loved this game, very cool!

I am a sucker for a good sheep game, and this is better than 99% of sheep games on iOS. This is nice, I want to see a full version get released.

I had issues when restarting the game so it was difficult to enjoy the learning curve, other than that it's an amazing game!

It didn't load for me via HTML5 version at all - it get stuck on "Loading" animation.

Pixelart from screenshots looks amazing though and i'll do exception and will download win desktop version when i'll have oportunity for sure!

Loved the graphics, gameplay and music. The game was too unfair sometimes, like the fact that the coin drop was very random (i got stuck at 35 sheeps because they weren't producing a single coin...). I also enjoyed the events in the game, were also unfair in some situations but were part of the theme and difficulty of the game.
Good job! Solid game overall.

I really like the idea and the adorable graphics, but the background music is only playing on the left ear :ear:.

Really great game! My only complaint is that I finished it with 49 sheep. I feel bad.

This must be one of the best games I played on this LD. The graphics are really amazing.

What I'd like to see different:
- The "winter" screen is too bright! It got immediatelly annoying.
- An endless mode, with increasing difficulty, a la Don't Starve?
- Leaderboards.
- I didn't really understand the theme use, apart from the mutating sheep mechanic.

Congrats, a lot! It is a really great entry and you'll probably get a very high position with it.

It take me some times to find the start button (i did the tutorial 4 times, good jokes on it btw).
The game in itself is pretty good. I manage to get like 40 sheeps. But don't get really why I lost almost all of them (they turn green :(). Good game overall.

Really liked this, and played a bunch of herding games! great humour, and genuinely found it harder to have control over the sheep the more I had - and that was for realistic reasons too not some glitchy physics. Loved the theme and humour - made a fun game to play on stream :)

Well done on the theme interpretation. Aren't sheep just the best? ;)

Not really sure if I can do anything to increase the coin spawn rate at all or if moving the herd around when nothing else is going on has any effect.

I like that you found the time to even put in a quite humorous tutorial.

Expressive pixel graphics, tasteful sound effects. Nicely done game overall.

so....

* seems that the sheep stop dropping coins about 1/2 way through... so my herd would only decrease
* wolves seem like automatic sheep loss (couldn't figure out any way to keep them from getting a sheep)

Solid game, it would be interesting to see the sickness part of having sheep interact with the herd in some way, i.e if a sheep died from sickness, maybe having the blood look slightly different (and it make the sheep which walk on it sick slowly as well) would be interesting, because otherwise it only feels like some random death mechanic :)

I would agree in the balance aspect it often felt almost completely random, so actually reaching the goal didn't feel so much a product of your own effort so much as ... pure luck, but my criticism aside, I thought as a whole, this entry was magnificent and made me sad I didn't have any audio in my own entry :D

Great work!

@profan thanks for the feedback, very helpful. When testing out the mechanics I made other sheep around the diseased sheep also explode, but this caused too much death at a later stage, so I dialled it back to one other sheep dying. Thanks for playing and rating!

One of my favorite games this LD! I actually thought once you reach 50 sheep the game's won but I was wrong...I saved my coin and once I had enough to get 45 sheep I did but then had like a minute left on the timer, then the winter came...

A fun game, perhaps took too long to complete. Not clear to me what the purpose of the ark was, overall a very nice effort!
