Destroy ugly gobelins to protect the arena's jewel !

Defeat waves of gobelins in an Arena, collect unique items, and protect the arena's jewel at the risk of your life. Every weapon or piece of armor you found has a positive but also a negative effect !

Story

Stug is a famous archaeologist. One day, during one of his expeditions, he discovered the mythical gobelin's crystal. At the moment he touched the crystal, a mysterious arena appeared and Stug was plunged in. Unfortunately, the gobelin's horde is coming up and want to get their artefact back. You embody the archaeologist and try to keep you and the crystal alive.

How to Play

What to do

You must protect the Jewel, and survive as longer as possible in the arena by killing waves of Gobelins. After every wave, you will regenerate your life and be able to choose between 2 random items which give you one good effect (ex: more damages) and one bad effect (ex: reverse control). You will find lot of items with different rarity : from common (Grey) to Legendary (Gold).

Controls

You must use a controller to play this game.

Controller

| Button | Use | | ------------- | ------------- | | Left Joystick | Move player | | A | Attack | | LB | Equip item | | RB | Go next stage |

Nice game! I would've preferred an option for keyboard and mouse controls as well, but that's okay. :D great job!

I don't normally enjoy wave based games, but I found this one very fun! I liked the option to choose between two items at the end of each wave. Most of the time they would offer a stat increase but with a penalty like inverted movement (which I am terrible at, so I tried to avoid those items). The visuals were good and I really liked the music and sounds.

There were a few things that bothered me: The inverse screen effect didn't seem to do anything. The list details of each item were hard to read sometimes as some of the statistics overflowed to the next line. I'd much prefer the game putting me back to the main menu when I died rather than quitting the game entirely, as I wanted to play again quickly!

Overall though I really enjoyed this game, the controls felt great and the game ran smoothly. Good entry!

Thx for your feedback @mcjammydodger. I happy too see you'r feeling. For the problem of item's Stats We did not have time. And for the End game yes. It's a real problem. But in the new version the death back to the menu now.

An interesting take on the theme. The first few waves I accidentally didn't take an item and started the next wave. Perhaps it would have made more sense to start the next wave after the player chooses one or the other. That way the player can't min-max the best gear? The game asked for a controller but the A button didn't appear to work on the controller required screen? I had to click the A button. Worked fine after that. An attack animation would have gone a long way to get some movement on the screen with the bonus of showing exactly how far I can attack. I really enjoyed the negative effects of the equipment. I had to stop and read to make my decisions. Congratulations!

Cool game. I love how the items all come with downsides. Fun playing with an upside-down screen and inversed Y controls.

Nice game!! It's a pretty fun game, is it normal that the application quits when you lose??
It got me a bit crazy when I picked an armor without reading it and the vertical input got reversed :joy:

@Josef21296 : As @hystaf mentioned above, we know it's a problem and we feel sorry for that :( The stress of the last minutes got us haha ! But we'll update it after the jam to fix all these bugs :D

I like the basic idea here!

I tried twice, got to wave 11 the second time. It seems like the better strat is to only pick up stuff that doesn't apply negative effects, even if that means not having more health or better stats!

Fairly fun game. I enjoyed the audio. The art was cute (although there wasn't as much as I'd expect for having 3 artists!) and the mood was decent.

I like the idea of cursed armor and how it fits the theme. That's definitely the main mechanic of this entry. Some cc on it:
* I would have liked to see more interesting "curses" in cursed gear, or perhaps some funnier ones. (See Rogue Legacy for some pretty innovative examples), but I can see how what you chose fits the theme well!

* At one point, I picked up an inverse Y helmet, and I expected that replacing it with a non-inverse Y helmet would remove the effect, but didn't. The way the armor applies "curses" didn't behave how I expected. I'm wondering if that's a bug or not?

* The armor stats is a bit confusing read. Something simple like red text for curses, green for boosts, ect, might help the user experience.

* My only other suggestion is it would have been nice to see the armor you pick up get equipped since the character is only ... 2 images? Perhaps that would have been your next goal if there was more time.

Thanks!

With the updated version I was not able to get the first wave coming with the keyboard controls. But what I've seen so far looks good. What do I have to do to get it running?
