You are a passionate cashier and currency connoisseur. You love currencies. You can put together change in your sleep. CURRENCIES ARE YOUR LIFE.

Yep, it’s a cashier simulator.

How to play

0 instr.png When a new customer arrives, you have to react fast! The longer the person waits, the less time bonus you will get.

1 instr.png The customer's money appears on the plate. The display shows the amount of money that you have to return. I hope there is no technical problem with the display, such as temporarily malfunction 😜!

2 instr.png Are you a tidy person 😇? You may clean up the plate, but you don't have to. Let's see how this turns out otherwise...

3 instr.png Place the change money on the customer's hand and click confirm. The customer doesn't accept less money, but more money is okay. Rounding up is the easy and quick way, but be careful, that'll give you a point deduction!

4 instr.png If you're running out of change coins, request more! Whops, what a mess. I hope there's enough coins of the type that you were looking for.

5 instr.png Argh! The line of customers grew and it got out of hand! You loose if there are >12 customers waiting.

Rules

  • You will earn 100 Points for each customer
  • If you are fast enough (<20 sec) you will get a bonus
  • If you are not careful and return too much money, the difference will be taken from your score
  • If the line of customers grows too large the game will end
  • Place the change in the customers hand by dragging the coins to it and click "Confirm"
  • If you run out of coins, click "Get more change money"

About us

This is our second jam together and we decided on some experiments this time. We first changed roles! The artist was doing the code work and the programmer the art work.

We also tried out an unusual (at least for games) technology for implementation: Microsoft WPF + C#. You can see the result for yourself 😅. We also did sound recording for the first time, but sadly due to time we didn't add a background music.

We used the following tools: Microsoft Visual Studio 2017 Community, Affinity Photo, Quick Time Player (for sound recording).

Hints and Known bugs

  • The game looks best in a window of size 1440 x 900. The window can be resized.
  • The drag and drop functionality is a bit buggy. Even if this contradicts with the aim of the game, we recommend medium mouse-drag speed 😅.
  • (to be continued, let us know in the comments!)

Have fun trying out the game!! Let us know what you think!

It's really buggy. I mean coins will just randomly stop following the mouse. And at first it was little confusing as to what am I supposed to do. So, some in-game tutorial would be nice. Anyways, I really respect you two changing roles in the team. That's a really brave experiment. Especially for Ludum Dare.

@alienplay thank you for your feedback. We also see that the drag and drop functionality is a bit annoying and we're working on that. I will also add a tutorial (at least to the game description on this page - not sure if we're allowed to make this kind of change to the uploaded game?)

@fraukauz In the rules it says you can't add features but you can do bug fixes. I'm not sure in which of those tutorials fall into. So yeah, I wouldn't risk it. Just add 'How to play' section on the game's page.

I liked it. It brings back many painful memories of retail work! Nice simple gameplay concept. And well done on switching roles!

I liked this! Took me a few tries to get the hang of it. Drag and drop was a bit hit and miss but worked most of the time.

To be honest I'm not a huge fan of those shop-simulation game, but I've seen plenty of 'em during the flash games era (Fast Food simulators, Coiffeaur simulators, Waiter simulators...)
This one may fall in the same category. Having to do some really simple math to give customer the change adds a slightly educational nuance if the game is played by young kids and this is a plus.

It is quite hard to play, however, since coins are not following the mouse very well, unfortunately.

I like your role swap, you have been really brave!

Well this is a great idea in principle. This has the potential of becoming a great game but there are some technical issues with it that deplete it completely of fun and leave me frustrated.

I downloaded the game and immediately liked the idea and aesthetics of it. However, dragging coins simply does not work. You have to drag them really slowly which is not at all the point of the game and it seems that still they sometimes fall out of your hand. The core mechanic of the game is broken, I urge you to fix this, which is still allowed according to the rules. At least my interpretation is that you are allowed to fix game-breaking bugs, which this surely is, after the Compo is over.

Besides that the register is a bit too low-contrast, you could have made it easier to read by reducing the background green a bit. I know it is supposed to remind me of a real register but being able to read it is essential for the game and also real registers usually do not have THAT bright of a background :-)

The graphics are nice and I love the fact that you tried something different by using WPF for this LD. Also swapping roles, I think LD is a great oppotunity for things like that and trying something new!

Unfortunately I have given you a lower rating than I really would like to so if you manage to fix the drag-and-drop issue I would be happy to give it another try and that would probably up the score for Fun and Overall.
