Warpy's World by Nilanjan
Warpy's World is a puzzle platformer video game created for the Ludum Dare 38 game jam. This is the first time I'm participating in Ludumdare. In the game the players control a cat called Warpy.Warpy's world is so small that if he goes to the right he comes back to the left and if he goes down he comes out on top.The cat has the ability to spawn a clone once per level which can be used to solve the puzzles. There is a time rewind mechanic involving the clone cat. Each level can be completed in multiple ways. The clone also takes damage.

Game looks cute and simple wish I could give it a go :(
I think Air is now locked inside Adobe's Creative Cloud, so there should be a way to export an app that doesnt require it.
Not sure, I'd love to hear someone elses experience, because I dont know if this is just me or the installer.
Nice job on your game, the clone mechanic is neat!
@slimabob Thanks for liking the game!!! I had great fun making the jam version and hopefully will expand on it in the future.
@navot Nice to see you liked it!!! Most of the problems you mentioned was fixed to a certain extent in the post jam version as you've guessed. Regarding the post jam versions not installing it was due to a weird certificate problem that happens when the updated versions of game executables are signed with different digital certificates,a goof up upon my end :( I have fixed the problem and uploaded new post jam versions and they should install without a hitch...so if you still feel inclined you can check those. Anyways thanks for checking my game out!
@nilead Hey thanks man!!! Really appreciate it!!!

@vidinu Glad to see you liked it!!! Most of the glitches are fixed in the post jam version. Yeah jumping would be great and the character could actually jump but I decided to actually scrape the feature at the end as I couldn't come up with satisfying puzzles involving the mechanic within the time frame of the jam.
I would definitely check out your game the first thing in the morning as it's already past 3 a.m here :)
The atmosphere is cool, nice entry :)
A feature this game would also greatly benefit from would be movement in mid air, because like this, seemingly easy jumps have to be solved by practically walking from one platform to another...
I only can praise the art.
@paperclipbadger The red hearts damage the player as well as the clone. So you can use the clone to take damage for you. There are multiple ways of solving a level. As for the clone not wrapping around I didn't find this during testing so might have overlooked something.
I was interested enough where I went and searched youtube for some gameplay and found a video that I'm assuming you made - so I'm comfortable enough to rate for the few things I can see (art, mood, theme, etc)
Really wish I could play it! I would caution against using installers for game jams, they turn a lot of people away pretty instantly if it's not just a runnable .exe of the game or a webGL thing. An unfortunate side effect of computer security =(
Good luck in the event!
The cloning mechanic is rather buggy (even in the post-jam version). No matter what, the *clone* :cat: always spawns on top of the *real* :cat:. Pressing the key down does nothing special.
Trying to solve the levels then become this weird glitch movement fests where I try to position the clone somewhere else by repeatedly falling and moving at the same time... *Doesn't seem like the intended behavior to me*
The *clone* :cat: can also walk through walls.... Kind of makes sense as it is a ghostly apparition of sorts, but once again... *Doesn't seem like the intended behavior to me*.
After all that glitching a "Congratulations!" screen would have been a sight for sore eyes, but I guess I'll have to do with perpetual rain.
I think with some refinement it could be a fun game, and it would be nice for it to be a bit more complete, with an end game scene.
But gameplay seems to be a little bit buggy, use of shift is not intuitive (sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, and I don't understand why).
But the cat is nice, and concept is very promising
* The basic concepts were not particularly well explained. I had to stumble around and die a lot before I figured out what you're supposed to do; specifcially, it's not at all clear when you first start the game that the world map wraps, or that you can sink blocks. Once I figured those things out, though, it was mostly smooth sailing.
* The controls seem a little jumpy/jerky, like, you don't always seem to be moving exactly as you meant to. This could be fixed with just time and testing and iterating, I suspect.
* There aren't enough levels, I want more :-p
Anyway, good job so far, and I hope you build on it further!
@acuity The clone cat once spawned is supposed to trace back to the original starting position of Warpy if the shift key is held long enough. As Warpy is actually spawned at the top of the level initially so if you hold down the shift key long enough the clone will trace it's way back to the top of the screen. So the trick here is to position the clone by holding the shift key long enough so that it positions itself where you want it to be in order to solve a puzzle. Remember the clone can take damage for you.
Cool art by the way!
It might be helpful in the future to have someone test out your game and give feedback regarding: character speed, control, confusion at the start of the game. Of course, that is the feedback we are giving now, but it can be great to have a tester while you work on it too! Honestly, great job and can't wait to see your name game for the next Ludum Dare!
@daisychubb I'm glad that you like the game so much...I'm already expanding on the game and hope to release it sometime later this year if everything goes well :)
@manou @belga54 Thanks for liking the game!
