5-Minute Civilization by Stevie Bushman

[raw]
made by Stevie Bushman for LD 38 (COMPO)

It's a small world, not big enough for both you and the barbarians.

Civilization distilled down to its most essential elements: settlers, cities, warriors, and nukes.

This is a very fun and hectic game! Congrats! The game setup menu was kinda confusing, though.

Surprisingly polished for a Ludum Dare game (specially Compo)! Congrats!

@Haydossy the default settings work well, you can change them to have fun with the world editor and it really helped with testing to enable nukes right away :) I did want to add more descriptions as to what each item does, but, well, I ran out of time!

@OWLverlord Thanks! This time my main focus was on polish, so I'm glad it worked

Interesting game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation [video series](https://youtu.be/1N8pCHp9YZg), if you’d like to take a look :)

@jupiter-hadley thanks for having my game on your show! I sent the link around the office and enjoyed your commentary and watching you figure out my game.

Yayyy! First RTS I have tried in LD38, beat it with all difficulties! Good entry, fun and simple gameplay and stays true to the theme in my opinion.

Great game albeit a little easy. Multiplayer would be cool to add in the future!

@daniel-alhadeff I would like to improve the AI for the next iteration. If you want to make it more difficult now you can increase the number of barbarians you fight. Also I tend to make my games too hard so I did try to make it easier this time around :)

Very fun game. I played through twice. The only suggestion I have would be to add hot keys for what you want to build. It can be a bit tedious to click back and forth between cities and the build buttons. But other than that, well done.

I've never played Civilization but I had a lot of fun with this one! Building up a little army felt great :)

Feedback: I thought the game was a little too easy. You just start building your army right away and the enemy can't catch up. Also, I wish there were a way for me to see if a city was in the progress of building something without clicking on it.

^ Total annihilation incoming

I had a lot of fun! Played several times. I am sure you are aware of those but for the sake of review:

* The sounds effects weren't the most annoying I have heard over this LD but they weren't pleasant either.
* At least one resource would add a lot depth to the gameplay
* It was kinda easy once you figure out that it's just spamming things
* Multi-selection, at least for the buildings, would be great
* Nukes were great, thumbs up!

Super entertaining game! A few simple mechanics and I was playing this game for a long time.

One issue I had was that I had eliminated all enemy cities but there were some settlers left. It was hard to find the settlers because all of the units were boats, which look the same as the enemy warrior boats.

I really like this game.

That music really adds to the frantic pace! I think this is pretty amazing for a compo entry. I do think adding some civ style resources would have helped replayability, but super solid job.

I thought this was genuinely fun and you made a real game, that had customization options for the initial scenario. You build multiple fun systems in a short time and I noticed no real bugs. Good job!

That was very fun! The graphics are neat, the music creates a very fun and fast paced feel to the game, and the mechanics are pretty solid. Selecting/moving units feels a bit confusing at times, but since the game is so fast paced, it isn't really a problem as long as the units generally go in the general direction of the enemy. And the nukes are very fun. Overall, a really good game, I like it :ok_hand:

One last thing: might want to rewrite the <title> of the game

Dear Firaxis, you have much to learn.

I only have on problem with this game, I do not believe that Ghandi would allow the world such a quick painless death.

Fun approach to scaling down Civilization! Really liked the hectic feel. A little micromanagement heavy, but I enjoyed myself playing it.

Amazingly fun! I had a blast with this, and it looked and played so very smoothly that I just fell comfortably into the controls and interface.

A very amazing idea using the civilization game to build a short game with that in mind. Had so much fun playing this, good work and good polish too.

The graphics and audio weren't outstanding, but the fun gameplay really made up for that. Incredibly fun for an LD game, I loved it!

This was a fun little game. I enjoyed it. I didn't feel like the enemy AI was all that smart - especially on my first several games, they could have annihilated me if they didn't wander randomly around the map.

The nuke seems a bit overpowered, but it strikes me as allowing you to quickly draw a game to a close instead of letting it be a long drawn-out war of attrition, which is often the problem with games of this nature.
