Info

Nurture your cosmic amoeba from single cell beginnings to space virus destroying awesomeness!

  • Ultimate space virus shooting carnage!
  • Extreme amoeba growing action!
  • Strategic turret insertions!
  • Crushing inevitable death!

BUG If the game seems to run at ludicrous speeds, try playing in windowed mode rather than fullscreen

Notes

I designed the controls around the mouse, so I recommend playing with one- but keyboard and joypad control is available if you need it.

  • Grow your amoeba by touching the cell wall and right clicking
  • Specialise a cell by moving to its centre, hold the right mouse button, now move left or right to select
  • A sound and white rings will appear around the player when your grow ability has recharged
  • Heal a damaged cell by moving into it, it'll automatically be repaired

Mini-postmortem

There's a lack of cohesion in this as I made a massive direction change midday sunday, and tried to put together a different idea with the parts I already had!

I'm fairly happy with the results considering, but it sorely needs more balancing and fleshing out with additional enemies/buildings to make the construction choices a little more meaningful.

Still it was fun to make!

Fun and hard little game :)

The graphics are really cool, the sound lack of a little music maybe but is great and efficient.
It did not really understood if you could control the movement of the cells but I had fun.
Great work for a compo game !!

The graphics is **excellent**! Don't know why, but pictures doesn't respect the final in game result.
My thoughts:
- Tactics will surely benefits from some other "specializations" over generators and turrets.
- It would be great to be request to build a specific structure with the cells: a pattern required to evolve?
- I found uncomfortable pay attention at the sound to understand when cells can grow, maybe some glowing in the player / a visual effect??

Hope you'll get more feedback and a lot of people come and play your game because it worth.
Good luck with the **compo**!

Wow! If this was made in a home made engine, I'm super impressed!

I got really excited when I saw the screenshot and I couldn't wait to play your entry. The controls were nice in this one and the graphics blew me away.

The only thing that needs to be worked on is the sound design. The volumes for the different SFXs were a bit off and it got frustrating to listen to after a while. But that's just a cosmetic, the game it self is awesome! Great job and thanks for the feedback you left on [Infecteria](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/infecteria)!

Alright, this is pretty great! Would like to see where my mouse cursor is on-screen, but other than that, its awesome!

Awesome game. I loved the sound fx and it was easy to control. Cool graphics too!

Yeah, I also wish there'd maybe be a bit more options when building stuff in cells. Apart from that and the lack of music (I played an imaginary soundtrack in my head anyway), this is a **very** good entry. As others have mentioned, the visuals are amazing, reminding a bit of Osmos and Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, but still having an original flavor. The sound design is good and most importantly it fits the overall aesthetic. And everything's just very smooth and controls nicely. Loved it!

Wow, this is a very polished entry! The controls felt pretty smooth, and I quite liked the mechanics of firing and healing the cells.

The graphics are solid and the while the sounds are basic they do the job well.

The only thing that comes to mind is that the UI element that presents the choice of turret or generator feels less polished than the rest of the graphics.

All in all, I really quite like this game!

So at first it was way to difficult. But that was when I was playing full screen. I noticed that the seconds survived was a lot longer than I was actually playing. Outside of full screen mode, it played at a much more reasonable pace. Really nice game, interesting stuff, and a good beginning.

Streamed it in this video.

I really liked this game. It was a lot of fun. It was kind of hard to aim without a cursor visible but it added an extra challenge.

Nice game. Little hard to defend at the end ^^ There is no music :(
Nice idea you had! Very good job!!!

Wow! Very Interesting Game! I really enjoyed it a lot! My record was 200 seconds. The game is very hard and challenging. I've nothing to complain about. Awesome!

Enjoyed playing this. Maybe the structure should be a bit more rigid to help moving inside feel solid and I would love a crosshair as well. Nice game, hope you extend it!

@damnscout Thanks for the video clip and bug report, seems like the game isn't respecting vsync while the game is in fullscreen (might be a graphics card setting you're forcing in your driver settings?), either way I'll look into putting some framerate throttling in to catch anyone else who might have this issue!

As other have already informed, a crosshair woulda been great or more specifically I would have appreciated making it dual joystick so that I can be moving independent of where I am aiming. Other then that though, great stuff, the weird floppy growth physics and movement were fun to deal with and it's a solid prototype. One thing I will say is I'd like the camera code to get cleaned up a bit, since I frequently had parts of my cell getting hurt offscreen and I was unable to see them to shoot at them.

Fun game nonetheless, thanks for it <3

Great art style!
The music was not the best but it was functional.
The concept was good overall.

@steve I honestly don't know. I haven't done anything special with my graphics card driver. I have two 1080s in SLI with GeForce 381.64 drivers.

251 seconds! Kind of tough, couldn't sustain more than 5 cells at a time, very aggressive assault all around.

Quite a different take this, when it comes to technology and design. Organic shapes and behaviors aren't usually explored much, neither is C++! The graphics are neat-o indeed-o.

Good work!

Great looking game and fun concept.

The mouse movement is good for aiming but not so much for moving - also thought that the shooting feels a bit inaccurate? But that might just be the way the rockets fly out (which looks really cool by the way).

Really interesting. Well done, thanks for sharing!

Fun game. 4 minutes well spent. But One thing I didn't quite get. What's a generator do in this game??

This was really good and unique. I got overwhelmed after awhile and I am not sure any strategy would have helped me progress. I think a growing camera would have addressed this and add an element to the game.

The art was great, the music worked well with it. A fantastic entry. Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words all!

@GoZz You can't control the cells yourself, they move around randomly to some degree, but mostly in reaction to being attacked by the viruses

@HomineLudens I had some other specialisations planned, but ran out of time as I had to wrap up early due to work in the morning! (Next time I'll take the Monday off!). I agree about the growth indicator, there are actually two different visuals to try and hint to the player they can grow again, but it's still not obvious enough :(

@ryte2byte The mouse control is entirely relative, so there's no actual mouse position as such, but I probably should have gone with a more standard dual stick control setup, rather than messing about with something weird :)

@Flaterectomy Yeah I totally forgot to polish up the build menu!

@Ilseroth I was trying to avoid making a dual stick game! But yeah, I probably should have just bitten the bullet and switched it over :)

@KappaIX I made the shooting a little inaccurate on purpose to encourage turret building, but perhaps I pushed it a little too far!

@Clickmation The generators increase the power of your shots (give you an additional missile for each you build), and increase the reload speed of the turrets.

I don't know why, but I love those sound effects. They fit this game perfectly. :D

The gameplay is also really great and works well. Good job!

This game feels really good!
It's so polish!

Love the fact that everything (different actions, moving/shooting/selecting/growing) is made with the mouse.

The game is a bit hard though, or I'm just to stupid to develop a great strategy.

Awesome entry anyway!

This is sooooooo preeeety. I love the way it looks, the way its polished. The graphics are great.
I like the concept of the game, i think it is pretty cool. With the amount of gameplay in there i played for about 2 mins before running out of things to do so thats still pretty sweet. But the amount of gameplay did seem a bit limited for a game. The value of generators seemed unclear.

The audio, yet simple, is Bleep Bloop perfect!

You should really add a targeting reticule, as now it is fairly impossible to shoot. I saw your comment about relative cursor, so maybe just draw a line in your shooting direction, like in alien swarm

What an excellent idea for a game. The cell growth mechanic and the way the entire playspace floats around puts an original twist on the 'ole twin-stick shooter formula. Could definitely see this as a full game.

One negative would be moving through the connecting pipes was tricky especially as they're growing. And I wasn't sure I saw any benefit to generators? I assumed they powered turrets, maybe they increased turret rate of fire?

Edit: Just read up^^, I was half-right on the generators :)

Anyway, really interesting entry. Oh, my best score was 250 seconds!

WOW! I am impressed. At first I wasn't clear what was going on, but once I discovered how to grow, that's when the action started. Graphics, audio are excellent. Gameplay is very original. Controls are a bit difficult, when you have to move, fight, and make building actions all at the same time. Very challenging!
