Catalpa by Samitalien

[raw]
made by Samitalien for LD 41 (JAM)

Hi, thanks for playing our game :)

In this game you pilot a futuristic ship through a gorgeous canyon and abandoned ruins infested by gicantic worms. We really wanted to make you feel as small as possible in these enormous environments It was our very first jam in 3D so we decided to have a pretty small scope to be sure that we woud be able to finish the game and integrate all the 3D assets. BuildFinal2018-04-24_00-26-20.jpg

Controls:

You control your ship with the keyboard arrows At any time you can press "A" to invert the Y axis At any time you can press "Escape" to go back to the menu and restart

Here is the main theme by @phyrsos : https://soundcloud.com/phyrsos-phyrsos/catalpa-theme

Known Bugs:

you might get stuck in some walls, in that case we are sorry but you will have to restart the game, luckily it isn't that long 😉

MacOS version and Linux version are untested so they might have some bugs we are not aware of sorry :/

Good Game les ptits gars! Y a 20 ans j'ai joué à des jeux bien plus mauvais et développés en 12 mois, alors ça en 72 heures c'est du bon boulot!!

@reivert yeah we are sorry for the inconvenience, we had some technical issues with the worm but we had already pus so much effort in it, it woud have been a shame not to show it

Nice simple and pure game. I think it would have been even more beautiful if you used Cinemachine for your shots :o

WOW.
Just WOW.

You guys are AMAZING! To be able to do all thin in 3 days is incredible. The game looks AMAZING, the soundtrack is bliss(P.S. Please let us download the soundtrack. I could listen to that all the time) and the controls are great.
I do wish we could control the camera using the mouse and I wished the ship was a little more centered to the camera's view. But these are minor quips in an otherwise beautiful game!

really nice setup and quality, but i didn't get the theme of the jam really
plus it's more like an interactive trailer or similar than a game.
really good tho

I don't think I have to talk about graphics anymore, they are stunning and something you could easily find from some game on Steam today.

I did not get the point (and theme) of the game but it was still a stunning experience. The flying was smooth although I would have liked to have more freedom moving the ship and camera. Now I constantly felt my movement was restricted.

Overall it was graphically and aesthetically very pleasing game. Some work on actual gameplay and you guys might have a real game in your hands.

Really nice graphics, sound design needs to be filled with more effects (ship thrusters or enviro sound)

Really good, the camera's movement could be smoothen a little bit but you'd want this experience to last way longer thanks to the music & arts. Would love to see a version with more content !

The visuals are amazing for this game. It's pretty cool that this is your first jam in 3D as well. One thing I could say is that the ship could be placed higher up in the camera view as it looks a bit uneasy. Leaving it lowered was a great idea especially since your goal is to provide a cool visual environment and you wouldn't want the ship to block the view. I didn't like how the game ends with showing a title and that there was no way to tell if the game was over. I stood there waiting for a while before quitting. I assumed there was nothing left that is lol.

Visuals were amazing but, playing the game was not really possible it almost seemed like a movie not a game.

Looked great, I can tell thats where most of the effort went here. Far too short for my taste, but still looked amazing. I couldn't tell what the two genres were you mixed though

Thank you all for your positive comments and feedbacks <3
We know there is a lack in the game duration and design since we focused our efforts on a good short experience and didn't have much time to do more.
About the themes (two incompatible genres), we initially wanted to mix boss fight with contemplative game/flying simulator but that was a too optimistic scope for a Jam.
We hope the experience was good despite of those problems !

Beautiful performance for the first time
The harmonization of colors and the use of 3D are particularly successful
beautiful team spirit for such an achievement in 72H

@Linkwin you can try using the repair functionality of winrar (by right clicking on the compressed file in winrar) or the problem comes from our upload, i'll check into it as soon as possible

This certainly gets 100% in mood and audio, but there wasn't much to the flying gameplay.

Stunning graphics and music! I missed something to do beside just fly to that toten. Continue working on it, with some challenges, has potential.
