Save the colony.

Controls - LEFT and RIGHT for movement - ENTER for respawn

Notes: - The larva is the hitbox! - It is possible to win - If the game has no graphics, refresh the web page

screenshot.jpg

Tools used: - Godot Engine - phone to take photos - http://goart.fotor.com/ for generating "deep painting" from the photos. Of course it wouldn't be possible without this website! It seems such content generators are allowed, it's very powerful. - GIMP for image editing (bulk of the time) - Orion for making music

Very nicely implemented. I had actually fun trying to avoid rain droplets. The graphics and backgrounds were awesome and ant was travelling in various terrain nicely. Collision detection worked, but gave always game over. I didn't figure out how to transfer the food to it's correct place, but maybe the food was just part of the graphics. The level ended too soon, I would have liked more scenery, or some place to drop food items. But good job and hopefully you get good score.

Hello @tero-pulkkinen thanks for the review! The level is just really short, there is a way to win though. It's a larva not food!
Yeah I would have liked to have a game where you pick and drop larvas but not enough time :)

In the description it says it's possible to win, but I can only move so far along the level before it appears there's no way to continue. Am I missing something? I was having lots of fun with this and really wanted to finish it. Either way I really like how you've done the graphics, and the music was very moody.

Good stuff :8ball:

@oddballdave it wouldn't be fun if this was easy to find! :) thanks for the review

Graphics and audio are great, although it would probably be easier if I could see the ground.

Music is top and the atmosphere built being very convincing.
Regarding the gameplay, the direction switching mechanic is making it feel a bit weird for me. Because of protecting the larva, I more focus on it while playing than the ant. And a change of walking direction suddenly means teleport. But it is a minor drawback, still overall impressive.

Cool art style and atmosphere!
Would be nice to know how much time is left before the hatching of the larva...

On the one hand, this game is simple, on the other - it challenges. It's difficult to dodge all water drops and stay alive for a long time. The graphics are absolutely awesome! Everything is very beautiful. Creepy music, but it creates the right atmosphere.

The visual style and overall atmosphere were so groovy! Simple game, but totally compelling with all the right vibes. I wish I could figure out how to win and save the little larva, poor guy.

@daria-toni @rumsquawks many thanks for the raving review :) I wish I had the time to put more content in it

The mood and the art style works very well! I had the same issue that the others, I couldn't walk further, so I didn't know what to do. Regarding one of your answers, I guess it's "normal" and there's actually something to do but I still don't know what :( I wish I could see how this game end :(
Good work anyway! :)

Incredible art style though I wish the ant was better animated. Music is great and the overall mood is top notch.

I couldn't get it to run on Firefox in Windows, but Microsoft Edge pulled it up. It was a neat idea to use the generator to make "deep paintings" as it really upped the visual quality and made it quite unique. Points for using Godot too. It is something I've been considering but haven't yet done in an LD mainly because of the web export bugs/issues.

Really unique graphics, kinda dreamy and weird, but in a goo way. Musi/sound emphasizes the overall atmosphere.
gameply is really tricky, definitley felt like a game. After several playthroughs I finally made it through the first rough spot and then I gave up I gotta admit lol.
Overall a great game for one person and the Idea is really cool that only part of your character can get hit. :)

Very atmospheric... fun to play, but I couldn't figure out how to 'win'. The fact you said it's possible kept me playing for longer though.

@recursor Sometimes F5 will make it work on Firefox, definately there are some issues on Web export though Unity also had some for me (couldn't pitch sounds)
Thanks all for the feedback!

I thought at first this was painted from scratch. Even if it was generated from photos it looks incredible.

Have We Reached Peak Aesthetics???

I have dinner cooking on the stove right now so I'm not going to be able to keep the larva alive for too long. Regardless, the atmosphere is so well done (I actually really like the stilted ant movement, I think it fits better with the painterly vibe) and I died a little inside every single time the game over music played, it is so haunting

@p0nce Nice Hokusai reference in there. I love the idea of generating art assets from photos, in fact I did that same thing as well. The rain droplets look really good, and I also like the concept that the child is the only thing that matters, i.e. the only thing that has a damageable collider attached to it. Nice entry!
