READ THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THIS PAGE AND WATCH THE GIF, EVERYONE WHO IS CHOOSING TO NOT DO THAT HAS BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THE COLLECT MECHANIC

Dont let your enemies take control. Shoot them, collect their anima and bring it back to where it belongs to keep going.

Commands are formatted like this:

[SERVANT] [COMMAND] [PARAMETER]

examples:

ZERO MOVE 1 1

ZERO FIRE J2

ZERO COLLECT 3 1

After collecting an orb, you must bring it back to the center(1 1 or 2 1). You have to move the servants back to the center yourself.

To restart:

Really enjoyed typing the commands and the audio responding to it. would play a longer/more complex version of it :)

Highly innovative game!

And wow, this is brutally hard! I have never played a game as frantic as this.

I like the servants having different names, that's a really cool touch.

Kudos for voice acting :) Good use of Grainy pixel graphics.

At one point I was unable to collect from 0 0 and it took me too long so my heart got blown up.

Hey, if you comment, could you post your time as well? I nerfed the servants last minute and I'm wondering how that impacted the game.

Thanks!

Wow, that is cool! Was difficult to play because of my terrible keyboard skills. :D But I enjoyed the mood and sounds.

Very nice take on the theme and use of commands instead of standard keyboard controls. Overall a really great job!

This is a quite interesting game!
I loved the mechanics and you should think polishing it a bit and publishing it outside LD!

I found the game quite difficult, too. On my best try I survived 133s. I had difficulties in typing commands fast enough to fend off the enemies and collect the orb and take the orb home at the same time! (and I usually type quite fast..)

Another quite cool feature I noticed you added is that the two servants cannot shoot through the central place... that tricked me! it changes gameplay a lot!

Why did you opt out of audio? I loved the audio commands being spelled out!!

Honestly, this isn't the type of game that I usually play and even reading the instructions I couldn't figure out what to do. I think this game could use better instructions for people like me. Maybe I am just to dump to figure it out :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Congratulations on making a complete game!

Looks nice but I couldn't get to play, every command gave me "error" :(
I read the instructions tho .. I'm not rating yet will try again later, idk

To the both of you above, you have to type the name of the servants in the center, then a command for them(move, fire, collect) and the parameters for the command(tile, enemy to fire at, tile).

I don't really get how you're supposed to bring back the energy, and how the collect system works, most of the time the servant moves to the same case as the orb and does nothing. I would love to replay it with some insight on those mechanics :)

@tymus, you have to move the servant back to the center after collecting it.

This was a surprisingly engaging and fun game once I got the hang of it (in particular, that it is much better to try to let the enemies fly to the center sometimes to get the energy right where you have to deliver it. that way you only have to type one command)! Seems quite polished too, mainly needs an ingame tutorial I think, since I had the txt open next to the game, especially in the beginning. I made it to 253 in my best attempt!

Wow a really intense game, especially towards the end when the heart beat increases and your trying to type as fast as possible. My only suggestion would be to add a tutorial.

Ended the game at 196 points.
Took a while till you get your commands, after that some subtleties occur on the game; your bots can be destroyed and the power core blocks your shooting.

A tutorial would have been great.

This was a really fun game once you realize how to get the instructions working, I would have liked to have a list command or something to see what the commands are ingame instead of using the instruction file. I think that the enemies should move even slower at the beginning so you can get the hang of it before you get swarmed. And I would have liked that the game used more words like "attack" because for some reason I typed attack a lot of times instead of fire even if fire was shorter. I liked the effects and how the game looked you really did a great job with this.

The text based commands are pretty unique compared to most games and i find that really cool. The whole setting is really dark yet interesting. While it would have helped to have a tutorial rather than an instructions page, i still had a lot of fun playing. I was sad when David died. Well Done!

Nice! Cute, minimalistic, nicely done, although I missed power ups or being able to build more guardians also when both guardians are near you cant shoot enemies that are at the other side of the heart, of course this is my fault but I also missed a move command. Is there some hidden command? Clues? xD

Congrats!

Found this one very fun to play, yet kinda frantic (which was intentional, I presume). If you want to keep working on it, my suggestion would be to add a little comfort to the parser--unless, of course, it's clunky by intention, much like the camera angles and controls in the old Resident Evil games. Specifically, I tried pushing up to recall and edit my last command too often, probably because the DOS commandline is ingrained in my muscle memory by now ;)

Also liked the mood of if thanks to missing information. What are animis? What does "pabula" mean? What kind of simulation is this? Who/what am I commanding? Who do I order my drones (?) to shoot at? Why is the simulation asking vain questions about itself? Could this be an A.I. on the cusp of self-awareness? Love it!

Nice, new idea. Fun gameplay with having to type commands, feels like a hacker, results in some frenetic typing sometimes :)
Maybe a bug, but it seemed like my ships didn't want to pick up the power orbs, they just sort of went over to them and sat next to them, then the orbs followed them when i had them move somewhere else. Was I supposed to have them bring the orbs somewhere?
Graphics and sound were great and really helped fill out the game. Really wish there was more, keep it up!

That was really fun. It got very intense after one of my ships decided to just fly off to nowhere. Definitely a very fun concept and the art style fits it really well

Funny to see this idea come to life, I've been thinking about type command move/attack game for some time so I was excited to try this =) The hints on typing commands on this page was essential, I was trying to type e.g. REMUS FIRE 1 1 but I realized I had to type the target name. I like the retro green grid look as well, nice job =)

Fun fact: On one of the previous Ludums (somewhere around 30th) I tried to make a game with the exact same controls, with typing commands and moving units on a numeric grid. Although I haven't finished it, even in my imagination it wasn't half as cool as your entry. Real great job, man! Very atmospheric, very engaging, very intense. Voice over for commands, graphic style, haunting text and voices - taking off my hat to all that.

I've got 442 on the first try and will probably go again to do better.

Surely one of my favorites in this Ludum. Thanks!

Amazing! Simple, but fun. Spent a surprisingly long time playing this game. Mixed up rows and columns sometimes. Would probably be better if one axis had letters instead of numbers.

This game is fantastic! I ended up getting 274 on my best run, though I will probably try again later. I would recommend adding shorthand names for the drones like A and B just to make it a bit faster to type and so that it is a little more consistent between runs. Great job!

The game looks really solid for a typing game. It's also hard, but you can see yourself getting better with time. The fact that your ships do miss quite often is really annoying thou.

It's a really nice game, but even the updated version is not working properly. Half of the time the servants doesn't collect the energy, just get near and stop. :\
Hope you can fix it, because I want to play again!

We streamed your game with Danae plays on Twitch. :) Here's a link:

[Danae streams Ludum Dare 39: Day 2, part 1: Power](https://youtu.be/bhOEvC7XxZo?t=1h13m29s)

The game can easily get quite hectic, which is good – I had a lot of fun with it. You might want to consider a short (5 – 10 second) one-time tutorial at the beginning to show the player what the individual commands do (instead of telling them), and also that the coordinate system refers to tiles, not gridlines. Speaking of which, it does look quite "organic" when the servants position themselves at various places in the tile, but it would still be nice to see more clearly which tile they occupy to avoid confusion.

The low accuracy of the servants' shots, while somewhat fun to watch, is actually pretty frustrating – does it add that much to the game? The challenge of the game lies in trying to type commands quickly and somewhat accurately, which gets difficult in its own right. Having to worry about the servants hitting my own hexagon in addition to that seems a little bit unnecessary :)

Anyway, very fun. Good job!

Hey! Finally got around to playing! I'm on a Mac so I downloaded the source and took the liberty of making a macOS build for you. If you want it, please grab the zip [here](ava.levelism.com/tmp/Power.zip) and host it where your Windows build is and I'll remove it from my webspace again. c:

This was super cool! At first I didn't get anything, like what J2 in your example meant, but as soon as the ships started showing up, I realised it was supposed to be their names. Keeping track of where to go and trying to divide the tasks between my two ships (having two was a great design choice) was really hectic and difficult even as I understood what I was doing!

My only complaint would be that the noise sound effect was too loud compared to everything else, so my ears/speakers got a bit sad. And too bad there's no fast-paced music playing to ramp it up even more, but it was great having all the sound effects, and the voices was a really humorous addition!

I did notice a few times the ship seemed to fail to collect, but maybe that was my fault. I did get the impression that I had to move to the square before I could collect there, but sometimes not even that seemed to work, so I just had to let some health slip away. I'm not sure if it was a bug or me just not getting it. Not a big deal anyhow! c:

The input method was very interesting. I'm sure there are tons of games out there that I just don't know about that do something similar, but to me text input in an action game was completely novel and a very interesting way of adding complexity that's easy to understand, and I can easily see it being extended to support a lot more commands, which would be fun. Of course, I'm a very quick typist—I feel like I might have an unfair advantage over some other potential players.

You're getting a high score from me, because this was fresh and exciting! Good job!

Cool, didn't manage to last too long maxima pabula animus 150. First time I have seen a text input action game, i liked it alot, I also really wanted up arrow for the last command(s) although it might start to make it too easy. The graphics style was also really nicely done and fit well with the terminal style gameplay. Would be curious to see how this would be if it was extended, if it was, personally I would like to see some kind of different levels with different objectives I find the survive as long as possible and restart from beginning format a bit limited gameplay wise. I suppose you could do some version of destroy a specific target, escort missions, protect a specific object etc. Anyway an interesting idea executed well, great work.

Cool game and neat idea ! Controlling the robots was so fun, even if I'm not so fast at typing. The graphics was nice. I liked the voice of the commands ! Great entry !
