Blood Gates by Balduvian Dead

Welcome to Blood Gates

Sorry for my edgyness this time around, but it had to be done. Play as a pink blood cell, on a quest to steal lifeblood from other red blood cells in a cruel blood-eat-blood world. But be careful, as larger blood cells will be able to eat you! You will face a gauntlet of 5 levels, each with a toll gate, costing a certain amount of blood from you. To be able to pay this toll, you'll have to eat other blood cells. Good luck and have fun!

Goal

Consume smaller enemies to grow yourself, avoid larger enemies until you are larger than them. Eating a smaller enemy will add all of their circular area to your own, a sort of conservation of energy. But energy is created when enemies spawn from green portals found all across the map. Don't stand too close to them or a large blood cell might come out and eat you! Check your blood meter at the top of your screen to see if you're ready to pay the gate toll. If it's pink and filled up, all you have to do is find the pink end gate and move on to the next level.

Controls

Click and hold down your mouse to start a movement, you should see an arrow start from the center of your player, and end a distance away from your character in the direction you moved your mouse. Now release the mouse and watch your character fling in that direction. The longer the drag, the faster you'll go. If you hit a wall, you'll bounce off in a mostly elastic collision, so be careful and make sure you don't bounce into enemies that will eat you. Bouncing into a blood gate will let you pass through if your blood level is high enough.

Technical Notes

This game was made by me in java using LWJGL, the OpenGL wrapper for java. Other tools include: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Desmos.com, and IntelliJ IDEA.

You will need the latest version of Java installed to run the game

Inside the download provided is zipped folder containing a .jar file and a res folder. Extract the contents of the zip wherever you want, then run the jar with java, making sure it's in the same directory as res.

You might also encounter bugs/glitches during your play through. If it happens, don't panic, i'm not perfect lol.

Well I liked the game, but unfortunately issues with collision made it basically unplayable. The graphics and audio were both pretty good. One suggestion I would have, and this is just a personal preference, but I think I would prefer having the movement vector be from player to mouse instead of mouse start to mouse. Also maybe scale the arrow with camera zoom. All in all though good work on this one. It will make a fine addition to your collection.

The game is good, but I have questions about the style, or rather the color palette. Sometimes the contrast hits the eyes and play is very difficult. There are also problems with collisions and some bugs that cause bad emotions during the game. But all the same, laborious work was done, well done!
