The Compleat Angler by Jesús González

December 4: fixed the fullscreen problem and a bug not allowing to play the game past the starting area, the game is now fully playable. There are maybe still lots of bugs, but the LD rules don't allow me to fix those.
You have 3 days to fish as much as you can. At the end of every day, return to the dock and sell your fish. Try to get $250 by the end of the run.
Beware: if you're carrying too much, you move slower and sink faster.
If you get into trouble and your boat is damaged, you can throw out some fish to lessen the weight and prevent sinking. Dropping weight also allows you to move faster.
We weren't able to work the full 72 hours, but plan to complete the game in the following days. We'll post an updated version here and on itch.io.
Features: - Pixel art. - Fish as much as you can in 3 days. - Drop fish to lose weight to move faster and avoid sinking.
Incomplete or missing:
- Balance: the game is too easy right now, the damage, sinking speed, amount and patterns and speeds of enemies needs to be adjusted.
- More graphics: we have many unused assets that we had no time to put into the game, and we also wanted to make some more doodads for the environment.
- More sounds effects and music: we had very little time to implement sound.
- Pre/post game story segments: the original idea was to have some panels showing why the cat wanted to go fishing, and also different panels for the ending, changing according to how much fish the player got to sell.
Authors: - Graphics, sound: Ingrid Peñailillo - Programming: Jesús González

I jotted down a few notes as I was playing:
I was challenged and engaged during the river segments, but the fishing minigame felt a bit too easy - The slow moving meter meant that I was never in danger of missing a cast, and because the fish did not move around on screen, I was also never in danger of missing a school of fish.
I'm not sure if I was doing something wrong (Or loaded up my boat with too many fish), but I almost never had a chance to drop the fish after a collision with an alligator - The ship sunk within half a second, before I could even react. This never felt unfair and never killed my enjoyment (I did hit an alligator, after all), but if the goal was to let players bail out their ship, you might want to slow the timer down a little bit before you sink.
I also found a bug on one playthrough - My boat sank on Day 1, and I was forced to sit and wait for around 30 seconds for it to get back on screen from the river before I could catch any more. Once it got back, my boat then started randomly sinking during the fishing segment, presumably because it hit an alligator in the river as it slowly walked over to me.

All in all, great job getting this all together for the jam! :)

What an adorable game. I really loved the art and aesthetic of your game. The water effects and the subtle animations really added to the experience. The music is also super cute and pleasant and fits the relaxing mood of this game perfectly.
I would have enjoyed it a bit more if there was some more variety in the fish you could catch, specifically with the meter mini game. Regardless, I think you did an awesome job.
