Planet Landlord by hampst

[raw]
made by hampst for LD 38 (COMPO)

My first Jam! The game is pretty basic, but I enjoyed the experience. Hope you enjoy the programmer art!

Created with Unity. Code probably has some odd things here and there due to the rush.

Our galaxy's citizens have run most of our habitable planets to the ground! As one of the few remaining landlords in your sector, demand for rental properties has never been higher!

Time to raise the rent and start cashing in! Only one problem, not all of our citizens get along, but you'll work it out.

Really fun game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation [video series](https://youtu.be/OjTiHp24xjs), if you’d like to take a look :)

Good game! The color mechanic is great. I really enjoyed. At the beginning I didn't get why the houses where pushing without touching but when I saw the different colors, I realized that the don't need to be in contact. Nice job!!!

Simple yet oddly satisfying gameplay. It's a pretty simple and tried and true game concept, but when you start to get different colored houses bouncing off of each other its gets really funny to watch. My favorite thing to do is after I mess something up just start dumping all the houses together and watch the mosh pit ensue.

The gameplay while fun is pretty basic in its current form. You're really just testing your physics based jenga skills until you eventually make one mistake and then everything cascades off the edge. I feel like its just missing something, but that's probably just due to the time constraints.

Thinking about what might add to the game I'd say something to use your money for other than score would be nice. Like some upgrades or unlocks that add utility. This could include something like a crane that might allow you to swap or relocate some houses and better make use of your limited space. A Nemesis or other enemy might be interesting too, more than just falling off the edge into space.

That said I found it fun and replayed it several times to generate the ultimate mosh pit.

Wow thanks for the awesome video and feedback @larrychupacabra! Some interesting ideas. :) I definitely was a bit constrained by time and only got around to implementing the most basic features.

It is incredible how much fun i had playing this. Like one of the other comments (i do not read other comments until i have played the game to avoid warping my experiences), i was not really sure why the blocks were bouncing off each other at first, but when i realised - it amused me even more and i had even more fun.

I will admit to having a play-through where i just dropped houses from the highest point possible to watch to chaos, and i was smiling the whole time.

The gameplay is simple, the art is simple, the sounds are simple - and this all adds up to a decent and interesting game. Would be interested to see potential future upgrades, such as purchasing upgrades, changing the platform size/shape for different levels etc.

Really great entry, good job.

That was great! :D

Bit slow start, but finding good places for houses got rather interesting pretty fast! I really liked the game :)

Fun game! I managed to get $6290, but many citizens were lost in the process.
At first a felt the game was too easy, I felt the ships were coming in too slowly. And then the speed increased and my world became a disaster zone!
The visuals and audio were basic but did the job, I also liked the hovering sign with the name of the world.
This game could definitely be developed into something more complex with more ship types, temporary power ups such as being able to slow down time, or maybe be able to purchase permanent upgrades with the money earned.
Good job!

Oh this is such a nice simple idea executed very well, I love it. It does feel a little slow at the start, but it quickly gets very hectic and is extremely fun. Simple ideas that are fun to play are rare, so fantastic job!

This is a great prototype. You should defiently spend some more time on it. Add some "juice"! Screen shake/ partical effects and a thumbing soundtrack! Great work for a COMPO entry!

Fun and very solid for a first entry in LD.
It is like tetris, but in space and with physics :)
