We were inspired by amazing sitcom "Rick and Morty"! The game is about collapsed time, that Rick's is trying to fix it. A simple game, with one click on the screen, the player can restore the normal flow of time or multiply the number of universes in two. Everything decides a fraction of a second.

Heheh, this is interesting! It definitely gets worse the more universes you have, so it fits the theme. :P My biggest complain would be that it runs at a very low framerate in the browser, and would maybe benefit from a download link.

@peculiarcarrot it's not bad framerate. It's part of game mechanics :). GL on contest.

Great use of the theme, and really nice art. However it was hard to decipher what to do, and the inclusion of Rick and Morty of source material didn't really add anything. I saw the episode this is based on, but this didn't add much to what was done there.

The art is really nice, the music is catchy albeit gets a bit repetitive and the way you thought about the theme is really cool, which makes for a fun game.

It wasn't always obvious to me when I did something right and when I did something wrong, though. Trying to think of ways to communicate this to the player in a more clear way could improve the game.

Overall, a fun little Rick & Morty game.

Nice job! I wasn't ever clear on what we're matching to - the image in the top left? - and while having a bunch of little screens is a pretty cool effect, I don't think it makes the gameplay more meaningful (it's easier to wait for an adjacent box to match, so there's not really a reason to click in one of the many, many screens that appear). I like the feel of this and it's different from every other game I've played this jam. Thank you!

Rick and Morty! S02E01 !!! One of my favorite episodes!
I love this one! The rick in this game is so cool!
It's definitely that the more you have, the worse it is.

But as a game, it's difficult to show that theme. Maybe you can keep splitting space-time. When the game starts, there is only one world, seconds later, there are eight world and keep increasing. Now the player will know he has to do something.

I think at the very least, you should opt out from the "graphics" rating, because your game visuals are closely based on someone else's copyrighted work. (check the jam rules for more)

As for the theme, this game and the quantum uncertainty situation fits it really well! Great connection!

As for the game play, I can't even fix the quantum once because my reaction time is above the switching time when they are all the same. Pity. :)

Great homage to R&M. The theme connection couldn't be better chosen :D

I still have problems figuring out what to do, though . I'm not sure if it's just a matter of patience and quick reflexes or if there's something else I'm missing.

I'll eventually get there, but in the meantime congrats for a very solid entry!

It's a fun spin on the R&M episode and a good application of the theme, with super simple mechanic! :) Super hard, especially because it didn't run very fast on my notebook (about 5 fps), but I managed (somehow) to win it

Points to improve IMO:
* Slow down the speed a bit of the changes of characters
* Music is a bit repetitive
* Rick would NEVER have different poses because Rick is never uncertain :D

I don't want to be a party pooper, but isn't making a game like this against the spirit of the competition? You're using copyrighted characters, without permission, with no sort of twist on the conceit taken from the episode... Plus, I'm pretty sure the art assets are taken from here https://dribbble.com/shots/2285669-Rick-and-Morty.
08. Dec 2017 · 01:41 UTC
I hate to be negative, but 300+ ratings done in 3 days after the jam? Seems suspicious to me. The game's not bad, but I feel like the Rick and Morty theme plus the enormous amount of ratings have artificially pushed the popularity of the game.

08. Dec 2017 · 08:19 UTC
How some people have noticed, your game based on a 3rd-party artwork.
So why didn't you opt-out graphics? And 340 ratings are like "what?". But I see that the smart balance is negative, so I am making an assumption that admins know about you.

My playthrough: https://youtu.be/eI-0UBhhy8U

It was a bit confusing at first because it wasn't clear which picture/dimension is supposed to match with what and that I'm not supposed to click the picture if Rick's holding a bottle. Though yeah maybe you left them for the players to figure out themselves.

I got linked to this one by a friend that knows I'm a Rick and Morty fan, so of course it looked interesting to me. It's a great tribute to the episode, although mechanically-wise, I still don't get it at all. I won 2 games. First one I won was by trying to match stuff up, and I ended up more or less thinking that the patterns were arbitrary. So, dumb luck.

Second time, I accidentally double clicked in the first second and still won :I

Still, the presentation is superb. The graphics make it look like a "barely within copyright infringement territory" game, and the music is very fitting. I like how it managed to adapt the split-timelines style to perfection.

That's all I've got to say. Possibly nothing that hasn't been said before, but I thought it'd be nice to reinforce some comments :P [In behalf of my team](twitter.com/whalesandgames), we hope to see more from you in the future. Kudos! :whale:

Very new concept that innovate the match-pair games with special art and music. It's quite difficult though. One problem: instruction is not clear that I had played several times before I know the goal. Besides the grandpa's pose should also be same but nothing introduces this.

An interesting take on the theme. Plus, it's a Rick & Morty reference, so you've got that going for you... even though I'm not sure what the legal gray area is there.

The mechanics are a neat idea. It's pretty easy to solve, but if you screw up on your first match it gets impossible pretty fast. I guess that's the point though, so well done. :)

So yes... I had to play your game... You guessed right -> Because I love R&M.
I had to try several times until I got the "right" or "wrong" and finally I won!!!

Ok... That is also my biggest minus (not clear what to do)... I guess you can life with that.
Even as a fan of the show I "forgott" or had to think about the gameplay. However I love the "split universe" idea also as a game.

The Art is well done and nice. However I'm not sure, if this is to close to the original character? (I have not downvoted because of this... but you might get downvotes here from others?!)

Summary - Very nice game. I sent out the link to friends of mine a minute ago... (Not for "Ludum Dare" but for "nice game" reasons)

Keep on coding!

Really hard going from 4->2 and 2->1, got it eventually with quite a bit of luck I guess.
One suggestion: if you fail from the starting position there is no benefit to getting it right over just resetting (by quickly failing a few more times). I guess it would be better to start from the worst possible situation.
