Bully squares by kpded

[raw]
made by kpded for LD 41 (COMPO)

The game is the mix of match-3 and simple strategy game.

Hire Red, Blue and Green squares, match them in a row or column of three and more with enemies and destroy them

To hire a square press the corresponding letter R for red, B for glue, G for green

Click on a square to choose it and click second time to the cell it should move to. The path-finding algorithm still needs to be improved, so sometimes you will have to show the square how to go over the obstacles manually

The game is developed in Phaser, with Inkscape and Piskel for art, BeepBox for music, and PEDIAPHONE for voice acting

Hope you will enjoy playing it as I did while creating it

I really enjoyed your game. The idea is definitely unique. For improvement I suggest a somewhat more elaborate tutorial. Also navigation and path finding could be a bit smoother. Overall a great title!

I think the game had a great idea and it was also fun but i don't know why but at some point it stopped responding to my controls and I couldn't spawn more squares. Because of that I lost :c But still great game. The comments were a bit irritating at the beginning, because I thought that I really did something wrong but after a short amount of time I understood that the game was called Bully Squares -_-. Great Game ;)

I had a hard time picking up the controls. It wasn't really intuitive even with your instructions. Cute art, nice use of the theme.

Nice implementation of the theme! Like a few others have mentioned: the controls weren't super intuitive, ingame highlights or text would be helpful. Looks great tho!

I actually didn't have much trouble picking up the controls, and I think the game was really unique. It was a little tetris-esque, actually. I feel that the music got a little repetitive, but I think you've stumbled onto a pretty clever mechanic here. Good work!

Neat game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 41 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPBmbPuy0Bg

Good work! It's hard and a good example of incompatible genres, good work!

Nice use of the theme and good art, this is a really solid experience. I did run into one issue where enemies would walk through other enemies if their turns were out of sync, but ultimately this didn't ruin my experience. I finished with a score of 970

I liked the concept! It works. Maybe it's a good idea take the core gameplay and rebuild the realization with better graphics and sounds. And convert it into the full game.

And maybe you can check our? Need some rating too.

You win! Woohoo!

Great job, I was totally immersed in your game and I'm struggling to come up with feedback. Good use of the theme as well!

But from a quick analysis, the strength of your game is the satisfying feeling of popping a lot of squares at once and the level design could probably have played more to that strength. Another satisfying feeling is the gold gained from popping squares, combining these two is a powerful synergy, more gold for each square the more you pop in a single pop.

One slighly annoying bug where certain shapes didn't pop all the linked squares.

Feel free to check out my web "game" [Story Collab](shttps://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/story-collabs), I'm in dire need to ratings!

@Maakep Thanks a lot! Yeah, that damn bug... I know. Thing is that I failed to successfully reproduce it earlier, so it is my top priority within this game now

Nice one, Theme is respected and polish, for me the only bad thing it's maybe add more ennemies to make it more satisfying, and make our units faster.

Nice entry

Like the voice of the 'anoying' tips :) Really cool concept you did here and I spend much more time with your game than I originally thought I will. And that is a good sign! Great Job! I liked it a lot

The tick...tick...tick sound was really loud so I couldn't hear your music well. Otherwise the game worked all right. I didn't QUITE fully understand the rules on when groups will trigger and when they will not, but it was enough for me to play for a good while until I lost. :P
