Blocks for Life by zep

At the start of each level there is a shop. You can spend hearts on 3 things:

  • Blocks: use these to build bridges, barriers, and to clobber monsters
  • Jetpack fuel: press and hold jump while in mid-air to use your jetpack
  • Gems: become your final score

Life is replenished on completing each level. Monsters also drop fuel and blocks sometimes. You can modify your block placement with up+left/right etc.

This is so lovely! I really like the different enemies, and the "surprise" boxes reminded me of Alex Kidd in the Miracle world.

I feel it would be fun to have the user score shown with more sparkles during game over (You got a new highscore! or something)

Really nice! After a while I figured out I can place blocks under me as I jump and that made the game even more fun. One problem I had is that I often accidentally used up rocket fuel because I jumped right as I fell of a block. I think this also has to do with how you slide over the floor a bit. I really like how the "music" is made up of the enemies sound effects. Good job!

It's an interesting game. You didn't really describe how to play the game though. Move using the arrow keys, jump using z and place/remove using x. I did find that the controls aren't great on a keyboard. The player also falls very quickly (gravity), making it quite difficult.

Such a fun game! Checkpoints might've been nice though. I assume levels are random? Because at some points it felt almost impossible without using like 20 blocks. Btw the jetpack was super fun to use, you can build up some serious speed with it. Great game :)

Cool! Pretty fun game and some nice graphics to go along with it. I liked the audio too. Neat concept!!
