MowZTower by Mowztouch

[raw]
made by Mowztouch for LD 41 (JAM)

MowZTower is my entry for LudumDare 41 ! this is kind of Tetris survival.

Goal is to make those monsters survive as long as you can. The more monsters are alive, the more you score.

Controls : arrows to move blocks, w & x to rotate Blocks. Space to Start / throw block. Enter To Restart;

c : wops i forgot to remove this key

Blocks: Red are normal, cyan are iced, yellow are heavy, grey are solid blocks; Blue one is malus ^^

i have had hard time with Unity compiler. No WebGL today, Tested only on Win 8.1. Should work on Windows Mac Linux.

Post Jam Update : 2018.04.27 : WebPlayer now available! This is the same version, same bugs, same chaos :)

I am not sure if I was doing something wrong with this game. Most of the time my best scores were when they got lucky and got buried without dying. It seems like the monsters get killed based on the speed and weight? of the blocks and making the blocks move gave them more speed. The blocks also seemed to randomly change color, not sure if that was supposed to be happening. It seems like this could be interesting but I never really survived very long. Was there something I was missing?

I didn't understand how your game works. Shoud I make the balls goin up? Or should I try to make full rows?

@NekoMkII Hey thanks for your review :)
When single blocks touch others bricks they give their color and effect to near blocks. Cyan are iced one, will fall all the time, yellow are heavy ones, grey are solid ones. And when purple falle, many blocks are spawned.
Monsters are crushed based on the impacts, but i did not really managed to get predictible behaviours ^^ They die all the time x)
For now the game is very buggy, pretty much impossible to survive more than 20 seconds x)
Your entry is cool ! :)

Tried and love it, maybe a little bit difficult to understand how the game work at the start. Special + for the OST U_u

It's an innovative idea, and I like the art and music.

It was very difficult to figure out how to play though, there is too much going on. All I could do was trying to avoid hitting the monsters with the block I was controlling, but I never survived long.

lol, it's pure chaos, nice! The heavy metal is a nice touch and the idea of blasting the monsters with these physical rocks with physics was cool looking. Well done. Cheers!

I think if the blocks fell one at a time it would make the game quite a lot more playable and enjoyable. It would let me actively try to change the colours and place the object properly instead of blocks just falling all at the same time and having very little control over the outcome of the game. I think with a bit of work it could be quite cool. I dig the idea of the single blocks changing the colour of the blocks it touches but I didn't quite understand the enemy mechanic. Perhaps i'm not quite grasping your idea. Anyways well done on submitting :)

This is a really interesting idea! I think that the game is a bit too unpredictable to be played reliably, but you still made a fun game. I liked the music as well! Good job!

Haha, this game is pure chaos, but in a good way :)
Having the blocks react using normal physics is definitely unique, although it sort of made rotating them not very useful. I still had a fun time playing !

Funny idea. I loved the chaos and jumble of it, truly nailed the theme in terms of the genres seeming incompatible, even while it's being played! :P

LOL!! If you're gonna make friendlies make them sweet instead of bombs xD
I was killing them in my first 3 playthroughs, each time I lost faster so I came back to see what the game is about. THEN you say I must PROTECT the bombs.. You're such a troll!

The game is such a cool mess :D I love how crazy and chaotic it feels :D Maybe that's not exactly what one would want from a game, but I enjoyed it for a while, but it's true that because of this uncontrollability it doesn't motivate you to play more.

Super interesting game, wasn't sure what I was doing but I had fun lol. Good ol' classic tetris music made it even better :)

Okay so first and foremost the remix of the Tetris theme is great. The look is overall quite good. Good application of physics to a game like this, and it fits the theme well.

I liked how it would give me more friendlies to protect over time, but wish they had a bit more movement or jumping power.

Sometimes it would flood with a ton of blocks which didn't really leave any way for me to continue, so I'd say that would be the most important thing to change.

**I like the concept Tetris survival.**

But I can't say that I fully understand the game. I try to survive as long as I can. But it's fun

My score is 612.

You can add like. Player can control monster instead of control blocks.

I think this game needs more instructions. Death doesn't seem reliable. What do the colours mean? Why are there sudden uncontrollable avalanches which often result in instadeath?

This game is very chaotic. Too chaotic to figure out how it works.

Really nice take on the theme! At first I thought I had to kill the monsters, after while I figured out that I had to survive!

It would be nice play this in multiplayer, one player controlling the pieces and another the monsters.

Good job!
