Digital Sounds System presents

3D VECTOR SPACE CAB

A 16Kb game for your Vectrex (...or Windows / Mac / Linux machine!)

Design & code by Fell^DSS for Ludum Dare #38

Get it

Download it here! (7.8Mb zip containing full emulator package for Windows, binary ROM for Vectrex, and all source code)

Run it

On Windows, just run RUN_ME.bat to launch the emulator. NOTE: You may need to enable sound in ParaJVE; sometimes it seems to not be enabled by default.

For Mac & Linux, get ParaJVE and then load ludumdare.bin from the zip.

All the above require a Java runtime. You may need to enable sound in ParaJVE if not enabled by default.

For a REAL Vectrex, just burn ludumdare.bin to an EPROM (or stick it on a dev cart of your choice).

Play it

THRUST: R (any button on hardware)

LEFT/RIGHT: Cursors (joystick on hardware)

Pick up passengers and drop them at their destinations. Refuel at fuel depots! Score MAD COMBO POINTS for doing multiple passenger trips without refuelling.

More info in READ_ME.txt in the zip :)

Source code and binary hereby placed under do-wtf-you-want license. Dear emulator writers etc, please feel free to include this ROM with your distribution. Dear students of the Vectrex, please do set your tab width to 8 and glean anything you can from this. It's a mostly-decent example of how to put together a full game including managing game states and such. The code is pretty clean, comments are bountiful, and hacks are clearly marked.

Come visit the demoscene

If you like beautiful code-art and you're in the UK, get thee to Nova demoparty in Devon, 23-25 June. Where various and sundry Vectrex world records will be broken (of the rendering kind, not the game score kind), and nightbacon will be enjoyed.

Love it Feels a little like a combo of Lunar Lander, Flappy Bird, and a couple of other classic titles from the 80's. Great work!

The graphics are great!
took me a while to figure out what I was doing though because you die so quickly if you do nothing
the collisions were a little bit off sometimes also
other than that, I'd say it fits the them very well and is fun to play

Good job!

Awesome idea to make a game for VECTREX, and testing it on actual hardware. Kudos!
I wish the gameplay would progress a bit over time, but overall I enjoyed it. Got a highscore of 1788 ;-)

Played the game.

Definitely something I spent more time on playing a bit. :D

I'm not sure if this is a bug- but everytime I collect the flag, I get 400 "points" straight and the game ends?

I liked the controls. IT was simple and rotating the world with left and right. And like the guy above mentioned, collision DID feel a bit off sometimes. There were times I was trying to hit the same object- and it took me 3-4 tries even after feeling like I bumped into it. Aside from that, navigating accurately with he < and > arrow keys can feel too fast sometimes as well. Not sure if that was intended gameplay-wise. :D

Overall- enjoyable, short game for a jam. Kudos for releasing the source code like that. :D I'm not a techy guy- so I'm not sure what you mean by that it's an emulator typa thing. xD

I like the idea of an Vectrex game very much... but I don't want to install java just for it, yet.

Is there another emulator available (for Windows) that doesn't need java?

Great idea, and I'd like to play it.

Wow, that's impressive! The Vectrex doesn't have any vector math unit or something, right? So all the (fake?) 3D projection was done by hand? Very cool!

I would have loved some form of difficulty progression, I only died because I got distracted and forgot to refuel (oops :))

Others already said that the collision with passenger, destination and fuel sometimes doesn't work correctly, just wanted to confirm I noticed the same.

I'm a big fan of retro hardware, so this is a very cool entry for me. I should get a Vectrex :D

Also, greetings to TRSi, love you guys' stuff!
