Ragdoll Wars by bwalter

[raw]
made by bwalter for LD 38 (COMPO)

This is a fun little ragdoll physics game, where you play as a here who travels the (small :stuckouttonguewinkingeye: ) world, fighting enemies. There is one known graphical bug, associated with Blood, but i will not be able to resolve it before time. It is rare, but if you encounter it, either wait for it to pass or return to the map menu :) there are 5 levels total. enjoy! Made in GMS. For now i'll put these here... Funny game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation [video series](https://youtu.be/1N8pCHp9YZg), if you’d like to take a look :)

This is pretty funny! I love the big impact when you hit the enemys. The collision with the blood is sometimes a bit annoying but all in all it's a pretty good game! :)

Very fun game, The ragdoll is very funny to watch and play with. I like the blood effect and I totally suck at launching sword but its probably due to my skills. Good job!!

Good job. The ragdoll was pretty funny. It was really hard. The audio was good. Moving was kind of hard because of the ragdolling and collisions with the blood.

This is one of my favorite games so far. It's so much fun. My one suggestion is like @smeax, less collision with blood. I do really love the gratification when you finally take that enemy's limb off.

This game is pretty good. The controls are finicky but it seems that is the intention. The aspects of the game just fit together. The audio and the pixelated graphics work well together. The combat system is difficult to gte the hang of but you had a little tutorial in the beginning to help with the learning curve. Overall a great game. One way th8is game could be even more awesome is if multiple players could battle it out against each other. In your post ou said to comment a link to our games so here's mine: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/small-world-keep-away

This one was cute. I enjoyed the lego-y art and the music was well done. The only issues I had were with the controls. I think that Q/E to resize should've been placed further from the main controls (+/- maybe?), unless they're integral to some part of the gameplay that I'm missing. Aside from that it's just a little bit unclear how you pick up weapons (automatically, I guess?) Beyond those concerns, this was a solid entry, and it was fun to tear apart some rag-bros. Nice work.

If you're interested in trying out something completely different, check out my space themed puzzler, [rovR](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/rovr).

Cheers!

Amazing GameMaker game! (I love this engine ). Graphics are soooooo good, but character is even crazily better. Trying to attack and move for killing the enemies is actually, hard as fuck. I really enjoyed this game ... and this is COMPO MODE !!! I'm surprised by this amazing work. Congratulation.

Really nice game! Simple but fun... I think that, if you add local multiplayer, it can be a great party game!

It felt too zoomed in to me and my sword never went where I wanted it too and I would often loose it. Graphics are pretty neat though.

Cute game and really original idea for the theme. I also appreciate the addition of a resize button since the download is windowed. As someone else mentioned, this could be a great party game! Well done.

This is one of my favorite game! The controls are quite hard, but I think it is part of what makes the game fun! The idea is innovative and the graphics fit quite well. I liked the fact that you could get other people's weapon, but I did not understand the point of throwing weapons! Good submission !

This was a lot of fun to play, and it's super satisfying maiming an enemy. Even though playing it without ending up limbless seems impossible; though that in itself is fun. Any rag doll game is a good game in my books, good job!

Fun, wacky game idea with good execution.

At first it was a little hard to control the character, but after a while you get used to sometimes moving the other way to charge an attack or rolling around to gain speed.

Excellent shader work when losing a limb as well!! Cool way to introduce the player to the purely keyboard based controls, using text prompts which don't feel like something one should do but which is not really necessary, but rather things you actually want to do. Like in the beginning, I suspect you intentionally made the window that small?

Very nice entry!

**T'is but a flesh wound!**

This makes me think of the Black Knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The humour level in your game is off the charts!

I must admit to finding it difficult to feel like I was really controlling my character. It feels more like luck than skill. However, having said that, it's great fun and, ultimately, isn't that the most important thing??

Those damn crazy moments are hypnotic. Legs and arms dancing between blood and swords without control, can you ask for more?

Very good game :man_dancing:

I played this on Livestream Today at the request of the Developer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zCqO_O0iIo

This was actually really amazing. We originally thought it wouldn't be tremendously expandable, but a Party Brawl Game like Super Smash Bros would actually be kind of amazing. I hope you'll do a multiplayer version, and I look forward to seeing more of this game!

Great compo entry. Music was solid (but liked the options to turn off), and intuitive controls. Loved the theme/art, though I was having a bit of glitching - like background elements popping in front of the character.(I overlooked it though because it was minor). It was pretty hard to control, but that's part of the fun! I kind of wish the weapon ended up back in your hand upright when you grab it, but that's a small detail. Also, I found the character parts laying on the ground visually pleasing, but annoying because they got in the way a lot. One of my favourite moments is when you connect with the opponent and that sonic boom way appears. It gave the the attack/impact so much weight. Would love to hear how you developed that effect!

Would love if you were able to take a few minutes to feedback/rate my game Sling Ship:

this is my favorite entry! ragdoll physics never gets old, and this game is a treat. This would be even more fun with multiplayer support. 10/10

for some reason, it's rally fun to play, and a kindof unique twist on the old hack'n slash. But, the not so pixely pixel art wasn't good. When you mix pixel art with non-pixel art elements like physics, it's kindof odd (at least to me) otherwise, really great and fun game!

Really fun, I love the twist on the old style. It reminded me of a ragdoll Zelda 2 :D. Great entry!

You know why this comment is really here!. Also Good Job. I did have one thing to say about the game though, I was having this thing happen when I was going really fast it seems like I hit my own sword and died. But it might just be me. Good job anyway.

I can't help it, I love ragdoll. This is why I also loved this game! So silly and whimsical but also fun at the same time! I had a bit of a hard time controlling the player but, I guess that was the point :P Maybe it doesn't necessarily work that well in a game with this kind of close combat, so it could maybe be a good idea to implement the combat in a different way (like tossing yourself on the enemy or something ragdoll-y like that). But this didn't stop me from enjoying the game! Also the music and the sound effects were really great, and I absolutely loved the shockwave effect. Maybe it was a bit out of place since it's clashing a bit with the pixel aesthetics but personally I always love seeing it, it's one of my favorite ways to give feedback to the player. Nevertheless, this was a really good entry, good job! :D

Awesome game. After about an hour of playing I still barely understand the combat mechanics, but I did finally manage to beat a level... but idk what that even did as the only two level choices remained the same. But yeah, great job!
