Hungry Blue Fox by ThaRemo

[raw]
made by ThaRemo for LD35 (JAM)
This was supposed to be a simple puzzle/explore game, but I had to do some other stuff so I had very little time. I've managed to create the core concept, but it's very short.
The game itself isn't great, but I learned a whole bunch for the next LD!
I'll post my timelapse tomorrow, first some sleep :)

Forgot to mention this in the game, but you can look around by moving your mouse!

Game Engine: Unity
3D-modeling and animating: Blender
Recording music: in FL studio (Done last minute :p )
Simple sound effects: Bfxr

FYI: The webGL version has nasty shadows, download an executable for the full experience!

Edit: Timelapse is up! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYNXl8Q7u2E&feature=youtu.be

Edit 2 (April 24):
Just noticed this is a Jam entry, it was supposed to be Compo one :/
Added an updated version!
* Added 2 more levels (Still a bit short on time D: )
* New and improved animations!
* Tightened controls (Jumping works better!)
* Added nature sounds (Credit: klankbeeld @ freesounds.org and gnerkus's idea)

Loved it! The graphics, the ambient music and the mood was awesome. A bit short, but cool game!

i can sum this game up in 1 word "adorable" from the lack of quality animations, to the beautiful simplicity of the models and music, it all fit together very well, and there's shapeshifting involved, too bad you had so little time, id love to see more of this. i also loved the timelaps you put up, it was funny to see you animate the fox without an IK rig (IK rigs make animation a pleasure BTW) and did all this by yourself, i'm a fan, definitely.

Art is awesome, although lacking antialising. Gameplay was not challenging though.

Definitely a cool concept. Controls work nice, good animations. Wolf looked a bit funny if I run off the edge of the tree, before he starts dropping. Loved it.

Theme is great, art is great, mood also. Highly rated. I couldn't figure out how to open the doors.

The graphics are nice (I may be biased towards low-poly 3D) albeit a little too bright. The music did reflect the solemness of the game.

If you do get to continue working on the game, you could add nature sounds.

PS: The main character looks like a repentant Sephiroth.

Very nice graphics and music make for an excellent atmosphere, its a pity you hadn't more time to make it longer. I really liked your 3D modeling, you will have great fun when VR headsets are more common.

Thanks for the nice feedback all! I'll try to add some new (more challenging) levels next weekend.
@treegemmer You were supposed to stand on the yellow pile in fox form and press E, but that was already the last level
@gnerkus Good idea! I'll add those in the next release

If you're depressed, you should play this game. I'm not depressed, but it made me relaxed.

Disliked the movement speed and that the game was so short, but it's well done

I had difficulties to jump on that tree!! Nice models and great music. I love the colors, but leaves on trees are very pixelated compared to the rest of the game.

I loved the art direction of this. It was rather short, but I was expecting that from your description. Over all: Solid effort. Look forward to seeing more from you in the future.

The controls are acting really weirdly on the web version : when you release all the keys, the character goes back to a "standard" orientation which makes feel controlling it like pulling some kind of spring.
Except this issue, the game looks really nice and the music is really relaxing. It's a very cute entry.

@LLucile Thanks! I probably should have mentioned somewhere that you can look around with your mouse. When not moving, the character orients itself to where your mouse is pointing.

Very cute game. Loved the way the camera moved to show what happened (digging - and finding a key I presume- opens a gate), so it was easy to understand. Great work! :)
