OUROBOROS by undefinist

[raw]
made by undefinist for LD35 (COMPO)
NOTE: Try to get past the 4th level, it gets interesting after that.

My worst game yet? :(

Hey! Managed to have time for LD35! :)
Sadly, I didn't do so well this time. I'm too tired to finish it up

Anyways, this game is called OUROBOROS, and is about an infinitely long snakething trying to eat it's own tail.
Gameplay wise, kinda like hokohum mashed with flywrench.

Oh, and A/D or left/right to move.

Made with luxe engine / haxe.

There are some neat concepts here! I like the imaginative interpretation of the theme, with use of warps and rotating the world as a kind of "shift"ing. There's something very Super Hexagon-y about the pacing and the rotation mechanic, but this is about a different kind of traversal which makes it a different kind of design problem. Having a few different level layouts that are selected randomly when you respawn would make this more catchy I think, rather than always doing the same level.

Neat little thing, balanced a bit more difficult than I'd like it, but I had fun anyway!

Made it to the third level? Seems like a deadend. It's hard/fun

sadly, when you survive your second life, you have to die on the third try... the base concept was still quite good

I like those kind of games! very cool concept! But the camera makes me feel dizzy and I don't understand how to cross the blue line in one level..

Really nice concept but so so hard! Devilishly hard. I must've played that racetrack-shaped level 40 times before finally giving up. The difficulty curve should be much less steep. I really live the effect that the rotating camera gives. Good job! :)

I really liked the idea, but felt that it could have done with a shallower learning curve. The snake moved way too fast to get to grips with the movement and I got stuck after only a couple of levels. With some balancing I could see this being a lot of fun. Certainly not as bad as your description implied, and easily fixable. Well done. :)

Very nice idea! The control scheme and difficulty should have been tuned - maybe add health instead?

Brilliant idea, it's incredibly smooth and the slithering adds to the challenge. However there needs to be some sort of countdown period before you start, because some levels do not allow time to prepare.

There also need some require some checkpoints, since you can cheat some levels by holding a direction before it starts, having the snake go all the way round to its tail without having to go around the level.

Short, but really nice game! I included it in my video compilation series of Ludum Dare games, if you’d like to check them out :) https://youtu.be/Q_baWrdQ2o4
