Super Bullet Mania Reloaded (The Sequel) by fusionnist

[raw]
made by fusionnist for LD 41 (JAM)

Ever wondered what would happen if you were constantly distracted by your subordinates while placing towers and defending a city? Maybe you already know: you would have to multitask your way through tower strategy and avoiding your subordinates' bad (or good) ideas. And that's what Super Bullet Mania Reloaded (The Sequel, SBMRTS for short) is! Featuring: - Text adventure/visual novel gameplay in which your lovely war assistants attempt to extort money from you, build bombs, resolve international conflicts and discuss tea versus coffee! - Tower defense gameplay with multiple enemies, turrets, and a chunk of strategy. But wait! Your diplomat is talking really fast and if you miss this, a neighbor might nuke the place! (nuke not included in game)

Anyways, on to the controls: - click on an available spot to place a tower - click on a tower to upgrade it (if possible) - click on buttons to activate them - use left and right arrow keys to switch between selected turret - press R and wonder what it does beware: you cannot sell turrets! (your subordinates break them often enough anyway)

Game looks great and sounds amazing! It's a cool mix but the gameplay is a bit too random and hard for new players. I think it's a good concept but needs a bit more balancing and some pause between messages at the start of the game.

It's a great idea as a mix of two genres!

But it's still super hard to play and from a visual point of view, it's a bit difficult to understand everything for the tower defense aspect.

Cool graphics! May I ask which font is it? 🙃

The graphic style is really awesome! I love the character portraits! Combining a text adventure with tower defense is also a very fresh idea! I feel like the text could go a little slower at the beginning for a better pacing curve, but it was still not that much of a problem! I really enjoyed that!

@Kusaihana : the font is a custom one made by Maytch :)

Others: I agree with what you said about the pacing, the game is quite intense from the start. Unfortunately, when I was scripting the dialogs I ran out of time for curving them out. But I hadn't really considered it that much either, whoops! ;)
Very good feedback, thanks!

Pfiouuu ! I cannot read so fast men (English is not my native language). I really like the concept. Am sure you think tower defense is an annoying genre, and you could read a book during playing ^^. However, great work.

Fun idea and game, awesome graphics and audio!

Game was too hard for me though, I can't get past the first wave. I do realize pacing/balancing is tough in a game jam :-)

Nice use of the theme! I'll agree with some of the others that dealing with the messages can feel a little chaotic at times, but it's an interesting addition to the tower defense format. Great art and audio too. Nice work!

Wow that was a unique mini-game!

What I loved
* Gameplay & overal feel
* Audio & overal artwork
* The character portraits!!

My Thoughts
* Tower defence aspect was a little hard to understand at first
* Interesting combination of genres
* Needs a little more polishing. But that’s for post jam :wink:
* Messages felt a little to big but shifted the focus to them which was good

I’d love for you all to review my submission as well.

You certainly managed to make a chaotic mess of genres that somehow actually works and is really fun. The balancing is pretty off like people have said and it's very easy to get an impossible first wave just because of the absurd quantity of enemies (usually flying) that can spawn. It's still awesome though.

A pretty cool mini-game good job.

I think the range of the turrets should be shorter 'cause a turret from the other side of the map can hit the enemy at his first step ^^

I’d love for you all to review our game too it's also a tower defense mixed with a run n' gun it could be fun to compare our different gameplays : https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/gimgumho

I'm pretty sure only the sniper has such a range, the others only have a decent reach, though I did make sure that the turrets wouldn't have too short a range since there wasn't enough time to implement range displaying.

Very fun game, I could not kill many enemies efficiently, but after I got it right, the game was really fun!

Congratulations on the idea!

Great idea, but needs balancing. It scales up too fast. Maybe create an "easy" difficulty, or start the game with slower messages.

Congratulations! And Monogame is awesome!

Great idea and work! Looks like almost finished project! I held til wave 10 but read myself into the messages and missed that some of my turrets vanished! It was fun) and a reminder about day off on Monday off to participate in gamesjam) Graphics are awesome, only thing i'd like turrets to be a bit bigger and more noticable)
