Running Power by 2Demigods

[raw]
made by 2Demigods for LD 39 (COMPO)

City sim with power problems.

[UPDATE, PLEASE READ]

I realized that in the help section i forgot to say that pollution drops the vote number of votes you get per house. The votes drop by certain %s when the pollution is withing some ranges

  • 0-5%: +2.5% votes/month
  • 5-10%: no change
  • 10-20%: -1% votes/month
  • 20-40%: -10% votes/month
  • 40-100%: -20% votes/month

These are applied per house.

(big thanks to @automatonvx for pointing it out, please like his comment)

I feel like the game lacks some sort of interactive tutorial. The introduction screen is sufficient, but not very fun to read. :)

Ambitious idea, some aspects work and others don't. A big achievement for a compo game nonetheless. I like that you have procedurally generated maps, and the ability to control game speed and map scrolling are big pluses. Music was cute :)

It would have added a lot to the UI if the costs/details of buildings was shown on the build buttons, as it was time-consuming to have to keep going back to the help menu. Game would benefit from a different win condition that fill the whole board, perhaps a filling percentage or winning X many votes?

Also when zoomed out the isometric camera clips the nearest terrain. I believe from past experience you can stop that by simply moving the camera further away from the geometry.

A complex game for just 48 hours, which is impressive! The graphics are ok, sound too, but the gameplay is not optimal I think (because of a lack of time, I would think). In the first round I did not know what was going on at all. The second round was better though. :)

Went to the folder called "PC_MAC_LINUX" and I only saw the exe version? No Mac?

A lot of stuff in here for 48 hours. Good graphics only the sound was a bit repetitive. Overal i think a good job.

Good job, That was a pretty ambitious game for 48 hours. I struggled to figure out what was going at the beginning, a couple of small things threw me of like the fact that it was zoomed in and paused so I could not build anything until I unpaused. After that I really liked it, but it seems very unforgiving and I could not figure out why my vote percentage kept going down and finishing me. I think if you just made it a bit easier for the user to understand whats happening and polished up the usability it would be really great though.

I didn't get very far with this one. Agree with other commments that it's unforgiving. Given a lot of time I might figure out the magic combination to get started towards the goal, but without any kind of safety net, or proper balance in the early phases of the game it's very unsatisfying to grind to that end. It's a very ambitious project for an LD, and could be interesting if developed further.

Takes a little to get the hang of, but when you understand how everything works it's super easy. This was a nice little brain teaser!

The foundation of the game seems really solid. I'm impressed by the implementation of grid map, scrolling, zooming, etc. However, I think the game lacks balancing at this stage. I lost very quickly even though I tried to build out slowly. One of the first game I played I started with the game over countdown  Overall, pretty good foundation to build upon but the game feels not very finished and tuned at this stage.

The game always tells me it's game over within thirty seconds, regardless of what I do. A better tutorial level would be helpful to get first-timers started.

The game is based on an ambitious idea that deserves time to be developed at its full potential. I had some difficulties to play it, but I am not used to playing that kind of game.

The game is hard to get in to, but there's depth to the strategies involved. At first it seems difficult, as you get only very little money while your votes are going down quickly. Maybe it's better to start off easier, so you can get used to the game mechanics in a gentler way?
