Taser Loser by Igor KinGamer

[raw]
made by Igor KinGamer for LD 40 (JAM)

HTML5 version available!

A game about Taserland, a city where people "invest" their money.

Wait for enemies to appear! (Top left corner of the city)
When hit, they may get angry...
But they will give you money!

More money = More enemies appearing with more anger (In fact, they should follow more who has more money, but I didn't implement that bit :( )

Very cool game! I enjoyed every minute of it (even when I was dead).

I love the graphics and music. The gameplay is really fun, but sometimes you could dominate and it could become too easy.

### Suggestions
- Make the character movement a little faster
- Allow the taser to work when coming back to you
- Make yourself start at the taserland entrance (this makes more sense, this also allows you to see "taserland" at the beginning, and it keeps you away from right next to the enemies at spawn)
- I never saw the sprint and energy bar move through the gameplay
- Make the coins icon be on the same line as the number

Great game overall! Really fun and enjoyable!

Congrats with your game! I think this game could be turned into a nice multi-player game. It's like lasergaming. :) It seems as if there is not yet a winning condition implemented and the sprint and energy bars didn't seem to have a function yet. The level/world didn't feel very suitable for the game.

Congrats on making AI players! Sometimes it was a bit hard to see which character was mine when I was trapped in a corner with all the other players.

I think this game has potential, and I am curious to see what it will turn into post-jam!

Thanks for the comments/suggestions!

Deadline didn't let me implement many ideas. Some things are weird because of that, I couldn't put in the game the context I had in mind.

But I hope I'll be able to do that post-jam. :)

Yep, sounds good! Just so you know, those suggestions did not affect my ratings (I still rated it very greatly)

Nice game! I thought for a moment that the other characters are other players - you should try to make this connected to a server and a multiplayer :) that'd be fun I think

@gyfis Thanks! I thought about that, but I think I wouldn't be able to make it during this jam since I've never done that before. But now...

With a bit more time this could be a solid multiplayer game. It was fluid and did exactly what it said on the tin. Taser!

Pretty funny game, I think you can get stuck on the floor of the level though. Couldn't figure out how to climb that ladder that ends under a platform. Pretty cool project though.

This game is pretty fun. Really liked the game and i feel this could be a fun multiplayer PvP party game. Only issue is I couldn't tell if there was a win condition? I kinda just ran around madly making money. That aside really enjoyed running around and making money.

It was fun, but I got a bit lost at the beginning. I liked the physics and the idea. Good job :)

Thanks all for the comments!

@wheffle Strange, that never happened to me. You really can't reach those ladders from above, that was a random strange map idea :P

@trenogre Yeah, no winning condition... *Yet*... :)

Interesting. I enjoyed it.

For the controls, I get historically why jump is often a separate button from the d-pad, but I find it weird and awkward on modern keyboards when up isn't jump, especially in this case where the non-arrow buttons are, in order, (move modifier) (attack) (move action).

The platforms near the bottom where I ended up were also pretty small and I appeared to be hitting my head on their undersides when trying to jump between them. I would probably make the platforming elements a little less awkward if you want to focus on the collection elements, but if you're looking to make the platforming hard, that's also a valid choice.

@monika Thanks for playing!

I've seen people complaining about using up arrow [last LD](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/powerdown). Anyway, I do find it more natural to use it, but I don't know what else could be better since there are ladders.

More time would solve many issues. In the bottom right corner there's something that should be a battle arena or so, but it's bad designed and looks like NPCs hardly ever get there...

:) Customizable key mappings might be the way to go.
