Torrejón Love Story by Yahialds

[raw]
made by Yahialds for LD 41 (JAM)

A heart warming visual novel about love, dancing and space ships.

This is our first ludum, and we had really little time. We tried to do something bigger and time passed too fast. Next time we will do a stronger and smaller idea :)

Wooah! This is pretty fantastic! You should play and rate games so that others will see your game and rate it too! Great job!

Wow, this was an ambitious game, with pieces of multiple genres coming in from all angles!. Some of the aspects work better than others, but I think on the whole you've managed to build a pretty cohesive player experience. For a first-time jam, you should be proud of this!

Great game! The only thing that really didn't like that much, was the beginning, felt like there was no point to that section, and all the choices were inconsequential.

@xmatos We had a whole tree with decisions and dialogue, a route for each character... but we managed the time poorly and had to rush one linear "story". Next time we will adapt better to a Jam reduced time :)

@Darby Costello Thanks! It was in our own opinion too ambitious... But we learned a lot and are eagerly waiting for the next ludum!

4 games in one! Cool! Thought it was made only by one person @Yahialds and was very inspired that one person can do all that in 72 hours, but when I saw the long list of credits I was slightly disappointed that it was made by large team.

I managed to beat your game, and shoot'em'up part is pretty challenging. On contrary JRPG(fighting) part is pretty easy.

In overall I enjoyed playing your game and have had fun! Great sound, great artwork, great narrative!
Great job guys!

@MaxKlimenok The list of credits is long, but part of the team was only there to learn :) and learning deserved an spot on the credits too. Our main programmer did almost everything of the core alone, so you can still feel inspired of him!

It's a mixed bag, some things worked a lot better than others. For one developer this is a really nice job!
On the other, I am probably not the ideal player, as I am not a fan of any of these genres, however I quite liked the self-referential humor and the sort of fourth wall breaking moments. That aspect was much more interesting to me, that the seemingly random gameplay mechanics that didn't really fit together.

@Merrow @stitchesmagoo Thanks :)

@szabe wow, I am so happy you noticed the self-referential humor, almost all the plot is about real life situations (adapted to the game ofc) and most of the humor was imposible to understand being out of the loop. Thanks for noticing even though you are out of the loop. With more time we would had been able to develop the first version of the plot, with much more open-minded humor.

It's always pleasant to see a narrative game come out from a jam, especially when it's packed with as many idea as this one ! I loved the few first choices with the dead ends, the glouriously stupid story kept a grin on my face throughout my playthrough and I enjoyed the various fighting modes.

Now on to the nitpicking : the turn-based fights tend to be a little easy, and the shoot'em up segments have problems of their own (the acceleration of the ship and the nice visual effects that sadly prevent you from seeing anything when you're against a boss).

However, the game is incredibly polished for its size, the sound is great and the art is serviceable. Props to the whole team for this nice little adventure !

@JLV Thanks for praising the narrative, that means a lot to the team, and to me it means the world :)

We really wanted to do a better plot, but as I said the time passed FAST! that let us little time to work on the "gameplay" core and one of our members had to do that almost alone. Props to him and again, thanks for your comment! We will do better next time (and I hope we go for a narrative approach again)

Well you combined a lot of genres, but there's not much fun in any of them. Would have been better to bet on quality rather than quantity

@Nehvis You are right on your Feedback. as I said, we managed time poorly and did 0 polish to the gameplay phase. We even let a lot of plot-related content out. Next time we will know better how much we can do in little time. Thanks.

I liked the game but I have one complaint on behalf of controls and I've said it to many people over the years - please keep in mind that not everybody uses ENG keyboard layout - most importantly the QWERTY set of keys! Playing the rhythm minigame with QWERTZ was doable but unnecessarily hectic. Also I didn't quite understand why you opted for ASZX set of keys instead of more common WASD.
🎤 Yahialds
26. Apr 2018 · 15:53 UTC
@doomista Nice feedback! We didn't even thought beyond QWERTY, this is one of that things I will not fail in the next ludum, thanks. But you can manually choose controls from the options menu, we just dint detect your keyboard.

As opting for ASZX, bad choice, next time we will polish more.

Thanks man.

The theme was TWO incompatible games, so this unfortunately FAILS.

JK this is honestly one of the most fun LD games I've played in years.
Hilarious, gorgeous, and so fully realized! The plot/narrative was excellent.

I really liked the visuals, the combinations of polished and rough edges reminded me of a pixel-trash approach but to a different genre of games. Overall when it clashed aesthetically, it seemed intentional, or at least it clashed "in the good way."

Dear devs, as i could understand this game was made on rpgmaker or something like that but maybe it's a good idea to write at least controls somewhere.(on screen or here in LD entry description) it's the most non obvious part =) In general it's not a good example of mix of incompatible genres. all of this we have seen in Evoland 2 and it's clones =( also there is some logic issues - https://i.gyazo.com/7e1370bd38e931fa6e947db7bc7f3c5a.png i have started a game with girl character but it seems that it's not a normal girl if you know what i mean... Alos during a boss fight in flying gameplay i couldn't see the boss and it's attacks because of too many white explosion effects %)

the thing i like are jokes and overall story, thanks for that!

Wow this is huge. Even working with a team of 7, to put something this big can be very challenging in such a short time. So kudos to all of you for well-execution.

Really ambitious and interesting - a few of the mini-games would have benefited from some tuning and polish, but I really respect the scope of what you were going for!

Well done, thanks for sharing!

@hiki911 You can see all controls in the options menu, but we will try to add them later + the minigames controls. Thanks for the usefull feedback :)

@Subhajit-Nath Thanks man

@KappaIX We will manage time better next time! thanks

Very very impressive! Awesome job!

I liked how each battle was a minigame from a different genre. (Although the bullet one was really hard!)

I played all the way to the end. Great game!

@Joe-Cowman Thanks! We wanted to had more minigames (and to polish a lot more, for example balancing) :)

@m-dam yeah, we tried to move from game to game in a smoother way, but we got out of time!
