Silent Rythm - A horror rythm game (download link available) by facepalmpt

[raw]
made by facepalmpt for LD 41 (JAM)

The objective of the game is to enter the doors in the correct order and exit this hellish world.

Controls:

W - Enter doors; Down key - Activate light; Left/Right - Attack.

Note: The game had to be simplified due to time constraints, therefore, important core gameplay ideas were completely scrapped. Everything from the art/animations and sfx was made from scratch.

The graphics are really really good, and the music sounds eerie too. The mood was really good. But I couldn't do much. I tried to follow the order 1-4-2-3 l and 1-3-4-2 shown by the green dots (considering it was a vertical or horizontal ordering), neither worked. Not sure what to do. I think that the rhythm part is also incomplete, right? Cool idea, I love rhythm games, I would play if it was improved I think.

Looks really nice.
Love the overlay effect with the dots.

Also like the mechanic of controling with WASD and having the arrows to push the monster away.
However coudnt figure out what to do with the board or the teleport pipes.

I loved the player animation!
Despite of that, I struggled also with escaping.

Couldn't understand how to progress, but nice animation, monster was suitably creepy, and very atmospheric! The rhythm part of it is kind of missing at the moment as the gameplay doesn't seem to need to follow any beat, but interesting concept nonetheless.

Graphics are really cool, the mood is also pretty creepy.
The idea of an horror rhythm game has potential, I would love to see your game complete with a real rhythm part.

I thought the graphics and audio were cool, but I had a bit of trouble figuring out what I was supposed to do. I also didn't quite see the "rhythm" part. With some tweaking and more direction in what to do, this could be a fantastic game! Nice submission

Thank you for the feedback and we apologize for the lack of info regarding the game.

To 'win' the game you'll have to enter the doors in the following order: door 2; door 4; door 3; door 1; Blue door.

Would love to make this a bigger game, but I might be missing a coder here. If anyone is interested on a collab or knows someone who might be, please don't be shy to drop a message!

Thank you :)

Graphics, sound and general atmosphere were great. Love the concept of mixing rhythm and horror. Lack of feedback hurt it though, but I really hope to see you expand on this game!

I really enjoyed the mood the graphics and audio put off. as others have pointed out it was difficult to understand exactly what was happening, as it seemed like i would simply restart the level randomly for not doing things correctly.

Looks and sounds great, but as you said in the description some of the core gameplay is missing. There's never enough time during Ludum Dare, so getting enough core gameplay in place to make you've got a fun experience is job 1, even if the player is just a rectangle and the doors are other-coloured rectangles.

Hope to see you in future LDs!

Based on the comments I'm getting the impression that there is indeed music in this game, but it won't work for me, which is obviously a problem for a rhythm game. ): Am I mistaken or is there actually no music?

Hello @Ava-Skoog

There is a constant pad playing to keep the eerie ambience going, we didn't implement some actual music and didn't intend to.

The idea of the rythm segments was to have the player perform an exorcism of sorts on the creature by playing the appropriate arrow patterns that would move from left to right on a tab. With each floor/room visited the rythm would become faster bringing the player more panic, the ambient music would also begin to shift to something more agressive on each floor encounter.

The rythm sounds wouldn't be music, but some distorted sfx represented by grotesque unnatural screaming, perhaps a mix of strange enchoed sounds and other bizarre things we could think about.

Again, We apologise for the lack of content and thank you for the feedback.

@facepalmpt: Hmm, I couldn't hear anything like that either! ): Maybe my speakers just aren't good enough. Might be able to try again with headphones later!
