Silent steps by David Brož

[raw]
made by David Brož for LD 41 (JAM)

Silent steps is a turn based-horror game. You are stuck on a space station with an unknown lifeform. You need to find and unlock a door using 4 computers placed around the station.

Just remember.You step, it steps.

CONTROLS: - W, A, S, D movement - ARROWS looking around - LEFT SHIFT sprint (only you move) - Q turn on/off flashlight - SPACE to use computer/escape

NOTE: Unfortunately I faced many unexpected difficulties while developing and the game is missing few very important features. I might release a new version in near future.

It's kinda dark, but concept of turn based-horror is good. At the first time I didn't realized what killed me

It's short but it works. The fact that the audio indicates what side the enemy is at is nice. The window should be square though, because right now you can see more horizontally than vertically without any reason. The player has the advantage of sprinting, so the enemy should also have an advantage that the player has to overcome. Perhaps some walls could be vents that only he can walk through.

Nice,
I like the idea, but the game is "too bright"… I mean, even if it's dark, you can still easily spot the monster from far away…
You could tint each tiles with a gradient of black (ex: pitch black for tiles that are 5 blocks away from the player's position) a bit like Minecraft lighting system.
To help the player with the monster's location, you could display it's footstep with a text or a ripple on the penumbra, the closer is the monster, the bigger is the footstep.

Anyway, this is a nice game, well done.
