Cinema Drive by Texou31

[raw]
made by Texou31 for LD 41 (JAM)

Tonight, you are going to watch a movie with some friends. As usual, they talk a lot in the car and sometimes expect you to take part in the discussion. The thing is it's pretty difficult to focus on the road and on what they're saying so you'll have to be careful about the other cars and the discussion.

This game is a Racing - Visual Novel game. You are controlling the car on one half of the screen and can read what the others are talking about on the other half. Sometimes, you are expected to pick an answer between two options, just like in any Visual Novel.

Good game. My only complain is that having the text aligned to the right made it really hard to read.

Liked it a lot. Loved the idea of choosing a lane to make a dialogue choice. Really captures something of being distracted while driving. A really clever take on the theme - bravo!

Very good idea. I like that situation from game could occur in real life. Collision boxes could be more accurate.

@Jaime Paz Lopes Oooh thank you so much ;w; I've spent the whole weekend to write them and make them as interesting as I could ♥

Nice one! I agree with the others. Funny dialogues and it really fits the theme.

It's pretty fun, tho the conversation was a bit hard to follow for me, even when reading all of it. The answer mechanism was novel!

Does represent the reality of distracted driver pretty well...

It's so hard for me to concentrate on everything. I either missed conversation or crashed listening to the people. Really cool idea and well made too. I liked the funny talking.

This is a fantastic idea, and well-executed too. The dialogue is hilarious. I didn't manage to finish it, but I'd happily go back and try again, and maybe try the other dialogue options to see what happens.

A really good idea. Quite a simple implementation, but very realistic. Good job!

Cool mash-up of story telling and driving. I feel a bit stretched to play this game because the driving goes pretty fast making it hard to follow the text while at the same time I didn't feel the urge to retry because I didn't want to hear the same lines over and over again.

A small bug fix to consider: sometimes the text overflows the screen.

Thats a interesting idea of having to focus on two things at once and be the distracted driver. The theme came strongly through in this one. Would have hoped for some alternate endings to try, but I guess as long as everyone's safe and sound.

I really the conversation and the game over screen. The movement control is smooth. Well done!

Great concept, really illustrates the dangers of driving distracted! I just wish there was an option to continue after my inevitable death, I've heard how happy she is to be coming to the cinema with us a few times now. It's great that there is a bit of life in the portraits, they could have been static but they are jumping around and changing and stuff the whole time, I like it.

That was pretty difficult! Like others have said it does really push the reality of texting and driving! Game-wise though, it would be good to have checkpoints of some sort, because the beginning can get a tad repetitive. I did enjoy reading the story as far as i got, quirky! Nice entry though, and good choice of theme!

Pretty cool idea, it's harder then I expected but not too hard. The conversation felt like one that could really happen, which I like. Didn't get to the ending/an ending yet (if there are multiple) but I'll 100% come back to finish this later. Well done :D

@ryunos haha very nice idea ! It was quite hard at the first tries I thought the car would go directly from one line to another but your choice is really good ! I could not find a way to answer people... ?

It's a great distracted driving simulator. I got maybe 5-8 choices into the conversation but ended up crashing. Very creative idea.

This was fun! If you keep working on it I would suggest making getting out of the instructions more obvious, I had to click around a bit before finding the arrow.

interesting mechanics, maybe it would make more sence if they were texting?

Cool idea! I have not seen anything like this game before. I feel like this theme really pushes the limits in innovation this time!

I like the mechanic of steering your car in either direction to respond in the conversation. Very good idea!

The grapics and sound are good, nice to have the head of the speaker move, these little details bring a game to life.

Keep up the great work!

Bien ouej' :)
