All-You-Can-Loot Cavern by Deatrathias

[raw]
made by Deatrathias for LD 40 (COMPO)

There is a cavern full of treasure beyond belief. But, in it, lurks a endless amount of monsters. Are you brave enough to face the dangers and obtain the riches or will you get consumed by greed ? screen3.png This is a twin-stick shooter where the goal is to collect gold bars and bring them outside to gain points. There are no limit to how many items you can carry, however, each item will appear on screen as an unmovable window. As you collect more and more items, your screen will become more and more limited. The intensity of enemy spawn will vary depending on time, encouraging you to stock up on items in preparation. screen1.png screen2.png

Could use some tweaks to the speed, got overwhelmed before picking up my first gold. That panther is nearly impossible to hit!

Very interesting dynamics, although to make it more fair to the player, there should've been some sort of action bar to use items, and I would've wanted some permanent upgrades too to get a better feeling of progress. Well interpreted theme!

The sounds overlapped with the bomb and got very loud at times. Visuals were fitting, although perhaps the projectiles should have been in more contrasting colors from the ground.

Liked the use of the theme, should be renamed to pop up hell though ;)

I liked the wide variety of weapons and liked that the weapons having only a limited use. This is a great gameplay mechanic that the new Zelda uses to force players to use more than one weapon which I think you accomplished as well. Visually I think it did a good job with fully animated and variety of monsters being very welcomed. With only a small minor ui scaling bug that I encountered on the main menu. My only suggestion and this is purely personal preference is that the ui gets so distracting and I would like the ability to move the object ui around. Overall I enjoyed it and could see you continuing the development of this game.

Cute idea, although I found the game is much more fun if you just ignore all the gold and collect just the "useful" items. Good enemy and item variety, the music was cool as well. Seconded about the panther.

Nice graphics! I like the variety of enemies, but they can be very hard to kill or avoid. At first I was annoyed by all the popups but then I remembered the theme :) Nice!

A bit too difficult. But I liked the use of the theme. Good job!

I liked gold taking up the screen. I think that was a unique take on the theme. Made the bullet dodging harder. Powerups on a separate bar would have been nice.

Really nice application of the theme! A good variety of enemies and loot!

I was a bit frustrated at the base weapon, and whilst the pop-up windows are an excellent interpretation of the theme they are an exceptionally irritating gameplay mechanic - sadly! I get that's kind of the point, though.

It feels like perhaps the difficulty curve is either a bit steep or, perhaps, a bit too chaotic depending on what enemies happen to spawn? So that might need smoothing out! :)

I love all the different enemy types you have created, adds a lot to the whole experience. The graphics are really good and the gameplay feels tight.

Only pet peeve I had was that some of the enemies's (red wizard) shooting pattern feels random, in a game that rewards skills, it feels cheap.

Overall fun and solid experience, good job d:

Really good game. It's hard though, very much so. But at the same time due to the variety of enemies, and items, it's also very fun.

Really great use of the theme.

Great job! :D

Great theme idea and integration into the game! At first I wondered why I didn't get any points... Then I realized I discarded all the gold... Haha

The variety of weapons and enemies (!) makes it actually a pretty fun experience. I also liked the kind of 2d integration into the game. Like when you kill an enemy they will die with a 2d scythe animation thingy? very cool.

Keep it up, good entry!

I like how theme is implemented here - the more items you have the more screenspace they obstruct.

Cool game, gets intense real fast. In the beginning I was like, yea I have time to collect all the gold. After 10 sec, DISCARD ALL THE GOLD, FREEZE ALL THE ENEMIES!!! KILL THE DOGS!!! HEEEEELP!

I like this! Took a while to get used to saving up items. I found it quite a difficult game, but felt I could progress more and more when I focused on the mechanics. Good and itneresting game.

Funny, challenging concept! I included it in my Ludum Dare 40 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdHqgfn9vOI
