Shrinking Dungeon by DutssZ

[raw]
made by DutssZ for LD 42 (JAM)

This is my first Ludum Dare and my second game made! Hope you like it!

Your life decreases every second and the only way of getting more is by killing the monsters in the dungeon, but some monsters turn into walls and interditate your path.!

Hey, just saying, some people might not play your game since apparently gamejolt requires you to sign up.

You have to register on gamejolt to get the game, it'd be better if you posted it somewhere else.

Created the Itch URL, I'll try to see what's the problem with the Game Jolt page, but use Itch instead.

More people would be able to play if you exported as a single standalone .exe, instead of an installer.

Nice game, I like the aesthetic and core mechanic. The collision was a bit frustrating sometimes, but not a huge issue.

https://gamejolt.com/games/SD/361171 Correct link for those looking for it, just googled the ID.

Edit: Requires installer (GMS), would love it if you uploaded a non installer version.

Died at 50. WHAT DOES THE NPC DO? He vanished before I could reach it ><

I scored a 12, then got to 46 (so 34 high score). Good job! Congrats on the first LD and this is a solid jam game. I think the idea is good, you just need to build on it to make it more exciting, like more than 1 enemy spawning, and more events like the hammer guy. Great job on the art, too. Looks great!

The link you posted is the link to your account's dashboard to edit the game, so it won't work for anyone but you.

@alchemic @g4mr I would love to do it but I don't know how yet. I can't re-export the project aswell because I won't be able to use my computer tomorrow. But I'll check how to do it and make a .exe in the next game!

@fiote The NPC breaks near walls when you reach near him and press space :D

@superpokeunicorn @scott-purcival I've already changed it, it should have worked by now, by the way, you can download in the itch link.

This is what I like to see! Got to 52, and the concept worked really well.
It was nice how simple the controls were, and I slowly created walls around me without realizing.
I think the enemies should slide a bit around walls so that they don't get stuck, and then it would be easier to wait and plan when to kill the enemies.

I had a lot of fun with this one!

Took me a moment to realize that killing enemies restored my life. At first I thought them touching me was bringing it down. After that though the game was enjoyable. Only issue I saw was the enemies getting stuck once there are more walls on screen. Also in the future you should try and avoid making the game an installer if possible.

Nicely done! A good start for your first jam. The art is very clean and I like the color choices.

If you decide to flesh this out further, what this game can benefit from is scaling in difficulty and skill required. In it's current state, it's just slashing until the thing dies. I think having the "catch" of enemies you kill becoming walls is a strong start, but with enemies spawning so slow it takes so long for those consequences to catch up with you. Maybe if enemies spawned at increasing amounts, and you could utilize skills like dashing (which would become harder to use as your room becomes full of walls) and powered attacks to balance the skill to difficulty ratio.

Overall, great work!

**Love the art and gameplay**. Would have liked the purple/red enemy to destroy pillars on death also to be able to click to attack , have the ESC button exit the game and having a cursor that changes color when u attack. With a attack sound when u are not attacking enemys. Really fit the theme and the graphics are great well done !! Was my first ludam also.

I don't like how those hammer guys spawn!! At the start of the game I meet 3 of them and they clear 2 stones, and when I really need them they just don't come.
I think you should write out the high score not the score of all the games combined.
It's a suprisingly fun game for me. I just put on some music (Crypt of the Necrodancer, because the art reminded me) and killed like a 1000 mosters.

@balka about the high score, it should reseted :T I will find what's the problem and fix it. I'll change the luck detection to stop hammer guys from spawning at the start of the game, thanks for the feedback!

Interesting game. Didn't realy get what I was supposed to do but I liked the art and tried to see how high of a score I could get before the level was filled up. great job!

Good idea, well thought out and executed. Art and sfx are good, controls feel tight. My only problem was once the level got crowded with columns, it wasn't always clear if there was any room to slip through them. Great work!

Nice entry with cool graphics and sound effects. In terms of game design, I would like to advise to tweak enemy spawning rate to make the game more dynamic.
Also, a huge part of the game is driven by enemy spawn location and you should be very careful about it.
If in some case enemies spawn far from player couple times in a row - the gamer may fail very quickly and get frustrated because he was not able to affect on it.

In total, I think that the game is made very well. It was really interesting to play it.
Good luck with voting and future development!
