Fat and Furry-ous by Tex Killer

This cute mouse has one addiction: cheese!

It would be fine if it wasn't for the bad broom that is coming. Can you keep the mouse away from its addiction and make it to the hole?

Development notes

Fat and Furry-ous was developed using the latest version of Unity 3D. The artwork was edited in Gimp and modeled on Blender 3D. In addition to our custom content, we also used a free broom model and a free hamster wheel model found online. The licenses are included in the Licenses and Links.txt file.

Alright so I think the core mechanic is broken. The fat meter is just constantly going up, even when I don't eat anything, so it always ends in a loss.

@ilseroth, I can't reproduce that, sorry. Can you tell me how to make that happen?
And thank you very much for playing! :D

@tex-killer it happened both times I tried to play the game. No matter what I do the fat meter increases endlessly until the broom hits me, even if I avoid all the cheese orbs

@ilseroth, I think I got it. I was using the "A" key during debug testing to "simulate" eating a cheese, and forgot to disable that for the final build. I hadn't noticed it before because I was testing using the arrow keys instead of WASD... :P

I removed that now, so can you download and try the game again? Thank you very much either way!

Good game! The idea is good and it is fun to play but it ended too soon. It needed more content.

The game idea has high potential. You already developed the main mechanics. You could easily add different types of collectibles and obstacles which could extend its playing time much more and make it more fun too.

But all in all nice game. Congratulations :)

Thank you, @furiouswitch! As usual, I didn't have enough time to add more content. I barely got what is there working before the time was out, and the mouse and cheese didn't even get propper textures.

I still didn't have time to start rating games, but once I do yours will be the first! I see you made one for LD #39 too, good job! :D

Nice game! Nice gameplay, sounds, graphics and core mechanic.
I loved the art style.

I think it's a good casual game.
You can make it works well for mobile too, probably if you add more controls.

A tip is try to introduce one game mechanic at time.
You could make a fast first level without the wheel and introduce it in the second level.

Thanks, guys!

@luvinicius, we didn't have enough time to create multiple levels, but if we did we would have done that.

Thank you all for playing!

Fun! I love that it is secretly an object avoidance game, especially when you get that speed boost for eating a cheese ball, it makes you think you should get them at first. Tricky. I really like the art style, both in the 2d menu and in the actual game. My only complaint is that the wheel is a trap and you can't get out of it. The broom just will get you. Also, I love that you're running from a broom.
Great job!

@brycetaylor, thank you very much for playing and for the feedback! :D

Yeah, that was my goal when I programmed the cheese. :P

The wheel wasn't supposed to be a trap, you can use it to burn some fat and leave before the broom gets you, but we didn't have enough time for the level design, so the wheel ended up too hard to use and survive.

_(Hi @tex-killer, are you the same as the one I played with 'Rude Bear Rabble' with? I was 'Bremco' there.)_

In any case...
The music in your game is just spot on! I loved the purposefully dissonant menu-tune and the friendly credits-jingle.

The graphics have that nice, home-made feel to them, without feeling like they're worse off for it.

Gameplay-wise there are some balance-issues I think: Try as I might, I basically always fail if I eat even one cheese-ball. There just isn't enough time to burn off any fat on the wheel when that's happened.

Hi, @remco! Yes, it was me! :P

After you left Rude Bear Rumble we reached a dead end, so you didn't miss much... haha

It is possible to eat the cheese ball(s) right before the wheel, enter the wheel, burn a little fat and leave without dying, but I admit it is harder than it was supposed to be.

Thank you very much for playing and for the feedback! :D

I first thought the yellow balls were points to be collected. :D
Very cool and simple game. Good job!

Game has a fun premise but definitely some balance issues. I'd love to see the cheese balls add a longer boost and for the Fat effect to be more linear - it seemed like I got exponentially fatter and fatter :)

Great art style! And the way you communicated game info was great (like the fat meter, distance from the wheel, broom chasing the rat, etc...)

@corc0 This was a game for LD#40, not #41, if you want to review old games, sure, but given the date I _really_ think you mean to review current games!

Like everyone else, at first I thought I was supposed to eat the cheese. Even trying to avoid it, I can't seem to get very far...the broom comes and I'm done. Is there a mechanism to try to avoid the broom once it appears?

Music is awesome and perfect for setting the mood!

I still don't get if you supposed to eat cheese or avoid it.

hi, it is a good idea but there is some negative sides about gameplay, first we need borders for floor, i can not run in the upper line and lower line but there is not any border. and i don't get the motivation of wheel, even if i get there without chasing(because i will get fat and chased) i can not use it, because of time consumtion. but still idea is good. good work :)

This game has all the right components in place. Good mouse animations, nice menu with well drawn UI buttons and a great sound. Would have loved to see more obstacles (like different types of ground that slowed the mouse) and the replacement of the sphere cheese placeholder with a blender model of actual cheese.

The first 2 times I played I thought the spheres were like coins where you had to grab as much as you could so I kept dying super fast. After that avoiding the cheese was actually very easy to do.

Good game and good job!

That was a fun little game, I made it to the end after a few tries by not eating any cheese. The sounds were really nice and I liked that eating cheese actually made the mouse fatter!
