Human Tragedy by tiffi

[raw]
made by tiffi for LD 38 (JAM)

humanTragedy.PNG

A small Game we developed for the Jam, but following all the Compo Rules (48h, no premade Assets/Sounds/Code), except for the Team Size of course.

Why isn't there something like a compo for Teams? Jam Rules are really just too loose.

Controls:

Movement: WASD/ArrowKeys

Nice moody game. I didn't care much for the backtracking so the ending remains a mystery to me. I like the flavoured the ingame tutorial.

It's real beautiful! Reminds me of a Tim Burton's better days :) I almost feel bad for hitting those cute blue animals. Loved it. Thanks for the nice entry.

It's funny the exploration concept, taking objects to interactuate with the enviroment.
There was a little bug with some colliders making hard certains zones to explore and the combat is strange (against bats the only thing I could do was smashing the mouse xD).

Music fits very well with mood of the game.

Overall is a nice entry for a compo team. Good work!

I liked it - agree with others about the backtracking. Nice sprite/animations and mood. Definitely tricked me at the end!

Joking or not, the whole "I want to die" thing is really not sitting well with me, sorry.

Really nice immersive game with a pretty deep feeling. The mood and music fit well together, along with the relatively bleak artstyle. As already mentioned, the combat and colliders are a bit weird, and it is quite easy to hit enemies across objects or get their AI's to glitch. I managed to accidentally herd the two beasts near the beginning stage into the passing, and they glitched into each other, unable to move and making the exit inaccessible to me:

Overall really love the feeling of the game, and though it is quite compact it left quite the mark on me :)

Like your constraint of sticking to the compo rules except team size! That's the spirit.

You created a nice vibe here in this game, the music was a great help setting the tone, and the art for the characters and different locations was nice. I enjoyed that it came full circle location-wise, and the actual ending itself was a nice touch.

Controls were solid, I had a few minor things like I felt the hitbox around the bottom of trees was a little tough, and I wasn't quite sure when I was striking the bats successfully. But having perfect combat/move controls is kind of irrelevant to the game you're making here.

I enjoyed playing through and I felt like the length was just about perfect.

Nice work!

Nice mood, but it was *very* hard to see much of anything. I know it was meant to do this to enhance the mood, but it really affected the gameplay because I couldn't even see the environment. Otherwise, nice job :)

Good mood, nice music and cool pixel art. The scene is a bit dark in my opinion and I got stuck when I kicked the first troll, I could move through the next forest :-/

I like character design and especially monster design. And the plot twist in the end! :) I stumbled upon on little problem though - at Stones location, a monster can block the way if you killed him there, so you have to wait for him to wake up and move. I thought that it would be more logical to kill monsters, not to knock them down. And it's unfair: bats are killed, monsters are just out. Bats lives matter too :bat:

Pretty sweet game. I liked the atmosphere and mood. I would say that the backtracking was a little frustrating but overall a good game!

I Played this on Livestream a bit ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwY1-PtcDqs

The game engine was solid, as was the mood and atmosphere, but I got lost and had no idea what to do. The character dialogue was thoroughly unhelpful and I ended up just giving up. Player needs more guidance.

I like! Big thumbs up for the setting and the mood. Character's occasional monologues add to game mood really well and make up for generally pretty basic mechanics. Loved the character graphics and I think the music is great as well.

As for the ending, haha, I really thought something else would happen, nice twist! Keep up the good work!

The game is very well made. I love the player sprite the best. The music gives the air of some epic and mysterious mission. The game mecahnics were confusing, and the end was such a twist. Overal it was a great game.

Great game, enjoyed every bit, maybe monsters have too large attack radius

Very fun! I like the zelda-like action meets more of a puzzle/adventure mechanic quite a lot. Great job on the ending.

One of the best games I've played in this Ludum dare. The ending was great. For a second there I actually thought he was gonna .... (you know :D ) But thankfully the way you did it was great. Great work :)
