I accept that I can't change the trajectory of a satellite after a certain period of time, but I don't understand it. The notifications were so small and fast that I didn't bother trying to read them. I'm sure there's some sophisticated math going on with the trajectory calculations. We really wanted to add a tutorial but ran out of time for the jam.\n\n@wrenpirate The reason you can't change trajectory after a while is that they run out of \"Delta-V\" which roughly corresponds with fuel. You can see the Delta-V fuel gauge in the bottom right of the screen in the info box.\n\nThe laser satellites do have too much drag, so they crash unfairly quickly. Sorry about that! Most people lose the first few laser satellites each game - the trick is to wait until just after the rocket detaches and then hold W until your orbit expands, then coast around to the other side and circularise. If you haven't learned that trick from KSP or Orbiter or something then it's pretty impossible to know what to do.\n\nThanks again to everyone who has played and rated, it looks like a tutorial is the most needed thing for the next version.","likes":1,"format":"md"},{"author_name":"Nam Nguyen","author_uid":"1104979","time":"2018-08-21T07:46:55Z","epoch":1534837615,"modified":1534837615,"text":"Hey this game is so addictive haha, and yes it reminds me of cookie clicker but not all cookie clickers are addictive haha. It was quite an interesting challenge to\nbuild a Libretro game in 48 hours. Now that I have a lot of the technical\ndetails sorted out, I'm hoping to spend more time focusing on actual gameplay\nnext LD.\n\nI really like your game. It's a lot of fun and the core concept works very\nwell.\n\nQuick heads-up, I intentionally glossed over the front-matter for the game.\nSome of the feedback I'm about to give is from the perspective of a player that\nhasn't carefully read through anything before jumping in.\n\n---\n\nFor anyone who's played a clicker, I think the shop layout is going to be far\nless intuitive than it should be. There are a few too many ques that suggest\nclicker gameplay-- some number that's increasing, some eye-candy that doesn't\n(initially) seem interactive, a series of buttons that are increasing in value,\nand the first couple buttons are entirely \"increase the number\" buttons.\n\nBy the time I launched a satellite, I was just slamming.buttons without worrying\ntoo much about the hover-text or what was going on with the main screen. Based\non my previous experience with clickers, I figured that the satellites exploding\nwas normal and random.\n\nI can see from the comments that I'm not the only one who went down this path,\nso I figure I'll share my own perspective on what's going on that's getting\npeople stuck on the clicker track of mind.\n\nFirst, the game starts with something that's totally not part of the primary\ngame mechanic. Something simple that I think is worth trying-- bump the\nplayer's starting money to 150 btc. If I had three options at the beginning,\nI doubt I would have been so quick to assume that the game is a clicker.\n\nSecond, the shop is ordered strictly by increasing cost. My\nclicker-monkey-brain just assumed that the different types of things were just\nassociated with different eye-candy. If these were grouped (investors, defense,\nsatellites, goal), even without labels, it would have given me pause to wonder\nwhy they are grouped that way.\n\nThird, debris is incredibly subtle, at first. Even with the pop-up\nnotifications to tell me that a satellite collided with debris, it took me quite\na while to figure out that the dots weren't just a graphical effect and were\nindeed bad. I really wish I had some ideas for what could be done about this,\nbut I'm totally drawing a blank here.\n\nFourth, the instruction \/ how to play short-text leaves no question about The\nArk, but doesn't stress the main gameplay mechanic (moving satellites into\norbit).\n\n---\n\nOutside of the whole clicker thing, I have a couple more quick thoughts.\n\nMoving the moon distance out of the statistics view and onto the main screen\nwould likely increase presence of an important game object that's otherwise\ncompletely invisible at the start of the game.\n\nLaser satellite has a controller hint \/ reminder in the hover text. More of\nthat would be awesome.\n\nI'm going to stop rambling now.\n\nWhere should I keep an eye out for your game?\n\n---\n\n\"a laser was destroyed colliding with Debris!\"","likes":0,"format":"md"}],"format":"md","images":["ld42\/109523-b6c94ef9bb0b9051f8b633597a4f444c.png"],"links":[{"url":"https:\/\/thelonelymoon.github.io","text":"HTML5 (web)"}],"metadata":{"g_key":"37699","g_author":"1081055","g_event":"LD42","g_eventkey":"73","g_subevent":"JAM","g_urlkey":"236380","g_title":"The Lonely Moon","g_status":"USEAR3","g_place":"924","g_commentcount":"23","g_site2_node_id":"109523","g_hide":"N","g_has_icon":"Y","g_rqueue":"0","g_random":"0"},"nds":{"n_key":"109523","n_urlkey":"236380","n_parent":"97793","n_path":"\/events\/ludum-dare\/42\/the-lonely-moon","n_slug":"the-lonely-moon","n_type":"item","n_subtype":"game","n_subsubtype":"jam","n_author":"81055","n_created":"1533974836","n_modified":"1534191950","n_version":"330409","n_status":"COMMIT"},"node":{"id":109523,"parent":97793,"superparent":9,"author":81055,"type":"item","subtype":"game","subsubtype":"jam","published":"2018-08-13T20:25:50Z","created":"2018-08-11T08:07:16Z","modified":"2018-08-13T20:25:50Z","version":330409,"slug":"the-lonely-moon","name":"The Lonely Moon","body":"# The Moon is coming!\n\nWhen astronomers noticed the moon getting a bit closer, they thought it was cute. \"The Moon is lonely!\", they said. \"It's coming to give us a hug!\".
