Low-Speed Internet Space Robot Adventure by Toulou

[raw]
made by Toulou for LD 39 (JAM)

The quest of a lonely robot on a distant planet who just wanted to play his favourite online game.

teaser4.png

Play as long as you can before your internet connection dies, collect energy stones to keep your computer running, and make a little robot very happy !

I was super busy this weekend but I wanted to participate. I made this game in my spare time, so I think in 3-4 hours. It's not much but I like the result. Just, go easy on me guys, considering the circumstances. Thanks for playing (^u^ )

IMPORTANT : Play this game preferably on Firefox, I just noticed but it's barely playable on Chrome due to weird graphical glitches.

Controls are awful, and some of the mountains (I guess) aren't here while graphism makes you think they are. And sometimes the battery appear at places way to awful to get to due to the controls.
But this said, the game is really great. Well, they are great. actual game is a great idea, and the game of the robot is pretty fun to do. Too bad for the controls, or the game would be one of my favorites.

I MADE A LITTLE ROBOT VERY HAPPY

Nice entry, mixing two game styles together was really cool and worked surprisingly well. The text portions were well-written and funny, I really liked those. Cool game!

I really like these ascii style web games, and i like the game within a game idea. Maybe i'm just bad at the game but power drains really quickly! I also found that sometimes power would spawn too far away to reach in time, or behind a mountain and i would die :( But apart from that a very solid entry!

That was a call for a pressure, because the time to lose was fast and it's hard to get to a crystal sometimes for it to stay longer. But I read the texts as fast as I can and sometimes guess a choice even if I was about to lose lol. And in the end, I also did make a little robot very happy. Hooray :D
Thanks you for this game, good job!

A little quote because I liked this line: "Look at the floor, This is indeed a floor."

Despite being made in a couple of hours, it's quite a challenging and fun game!

I like it! Just the controls are kinda unforgiving.

On what engine did you make it? It reminds me of a .bat file, like those old games where you could only display graphics with text!

For just 4 hours, I'd say this is great! You managed to create the controls, story, random spawning of objects, object interaction and a whole game withing the game, all that just with text graphics! That is a lot for just 4 hours of work! Congrats!

Everything wanted to kill me in this dungeon xD Liked how to choices needed to be fast, that forced me to make quick decisions.

That graphic style is cool!

I just didn't like being impossibly far away from the energy crystals sometimes, and getting killed for opening the first door and first chest I encountered xD Kinda funny, but overall it didn't grab me because I didn't have control over the outcome.

The concept has potential, maybe make the game in the computer a little more interactive, like still text-based, but you collect a weapon and beat up monsters, then you can spring a mimic on us and give us a chance to fight it:)

Thank you all for making my game reach 20 notes. And thank you soooo much for all the positive feedback, I didn't expected my rushed game to be appreciated this much.
@jason200101 Thanks for your comment, the game is entirely on javascript (and some XML for the game within the game). It's a homebrew engine that combine codes from differents projects, including my game for the previous LD. The code is a huuuuge mess, but hey it works ! @prettylucky I wanted the sub game to be as simple as possible, or the game would have been impossible to finish. It could have been longer though.

I won! :) Really impressive game for just a couple of hours of work, great concept combining different genres. I didn't like the controls though, I would've liked it much more if I could just hold the cursor keys instead of having to press them repeatedly. Fun story and nicely written though!

Cute story! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6R1HDnk8EU

Nice little game. I enjoyed it a lot and the robot could play on his weekend. I wish only the energy batteries came across more often!

That was a interesting exercise... first my firefox complained there was an error in lien.js line 1 with an extra comma.

Then i downloaded the files, fix the problem, and try to play it locally instead. Then it complained about some xml file.

Then i downloaded the xml file and then it finally runs

Then i find out that going to the computer directly and play is faster than running around.

Then i decided to change the timer and play the game to win. ^_^

So, except for some javascript problems, it is a fun game...

@g12345 Nasty cheater ! Just kidding. I had random errors too on Firefox but none of them made the game unplayable so I didn't bother. Glad you still enjoyed the game.
