ShmuRTS by bitowl

[raw]
made by bitowl for LD 41 (COMPO)

My try to mix the Shoot 'em up genre with a very simple RTS part.

gameplay.png

Controls:
Control ship:W/A, LEFT/RIGHT
Fire: L_CTRL, SPACE
Send Ships: Left click planet and drag to target planet
Scroll Map: Right click

Getting back into Unity after a year of abstinence was really hard, so I had no time for balanced gameplay :/

Cool little shooter.
It took me a second to figure out the dragging to go to a new planet.
Are supplies infinite and just a free action?
And is there a final boss or enemy? I only saw two different types.
Would improve the game a lot of enemies could shoot. :fox:

Hey! Good work! Very funny! I really like the idea! The game is very original! The sounds are quite hilarious haha very good! Maybe the background parralax would have been very good, to give the sensation of movement with planets, moving stars etc. In any case good job! Good job for 72h! :)

Here is our game if you want to try it!

I think this is a neat little entry! The core mechanic of pulling up a map and then having a stage generated depending on the length of the journey works really well imo.

Add some more resource management mechanics, balance the gameplay and build out the RPG elements and you've got a decent game idea here! Seriously!

Hey, the Windows link is broken and the web version is not working properly. Can't play, can't rate.

**I saved galaxy**

it's nice combination of RTS and bullet hell(shoot em up)

Good particle effects.

As you mention in descriptions you don't get time to balance it. I think after balance this game become even better.

And in between some planet we get boss fight.

Wow, very cool idea. I loved the sound effects, and visual effects.

I was confused like @Persijn about the dragging, but once I figured it out, it made sense.

Awesome job!

Fun game with decent graphics. Took a little while to figure out, maybe a in-game tutorial could help some people out? cool RTS

Cute game! I enjoyed the graphics, not sure if there is reward for going to multiple planets. Was confusing how to move between planets at first (You have to left click drag from one planet to another)

Interesting choice of genres to combine, but I feel like they could have been made to fit better if the planets generated income instead of combat. Then shmup combat could be used to get an edge in battle, helping you win RTS fights even though you're outnumbered or something.

Also, you should update the description to explain clicking and dragging to attack planets. There's no way I was going to figure that out without the comment from @Persijn

The controls were very confusing. I did not understand the dragging until quite a bit of trial and error, I was beginning to think the WebGL build was broken. It does makes sense once you figure it out, but it's not as intuitive as i would have expected. The gameplay itself though is pretty fun. I loved the sound effects and the trails from the engines

I loved the graphics and the combination of genres. I believe the controls were easy enough and intuitive, I didn't have any problem with them, contrary to other people, maybe because I read the controls you wrote in here before I played. I felt bored after a while so maybe you didn't need to put all those planets since it became repetitive after awhile. All in all a great and very polished entry.

Congratulations :)

Note: The audio was not working for some reason. I was playing the html5 build.

An interesting idea, but the RTS part was.... strange? I'm not sure if it was broken or what, but the enemy never did anything, I could take over every planet with either my ship or by sending a ship unit. There was absolutely no challenge at all in that part.

The sound effects also sounded... human, I guess? Like a person was trying to make the sound effect rather than the sound itself being a thing.

I really like the idea, UI and controls. However the game itself is too easy. (Would be nice if there was an AI that could move around and shoot) Also I don't like the fact you can win without killing any enemy. Other than that good job!

I like the idea here, but this feels pretty bare-bones. The 'rts' mechanic is more of a route-selection than a true RTS, and I'm not seeing a connection between what happens on the map and in the gameplay. Forging that connection somehow would be the most important thing to add to this game, though making enemies that can realistically threaten a player who isn't out of ammo would be a close second. Still, good work!
