Please, play at least until the level 5, the game is not that easy ;)

You are trapped! oh no! Use the boxes to climb and get out of here. We mixed up First Person Shooter, Puzzle and Platform in our game. It is a game submitted for Ludum Dare 41 Game Jam.

Objective

Your objective is simple, get out of the place that you are, use the boxes, out of the force field there is a Red Button, just press "E" to finish the level and go to the next one.

The game is quite simple :/ I dont really see the goal of the game. What the character need to do. You get a life. Maybe add a score ? yeah, dont see the goal. Graphics are good, music is simple but it works. You should add more feedbacks, visuals and sounds. How to recup ammo etc.

Don't use rar. Windows supports zip natively and I think (hope?) some linuxes do as well, so that should be the default go-to imho. However I downloaded 7zip especially for you because your game looked interesting :D

And I was not disappointed! Looking around looked very smooth, however walking around could use some help, it felt less smooth. It didn't really impact my ability to jump from place to place though.

First I thought the game mechanic was going to be a bit underwhelming but then when I figured out you had to escape from the box it turned out to be really engaging! By the fourth level I got bored because it gets a bit boring but the mechanic was really well executed.

I also think ten bullets is not that much btw.

Another downside I ran into was that sometimes you just sit around waiting for a block to turn up nearby. I guess that's hard to tune but having to wait is really a showstopper.

Something that I did like a lot was the way the yellow beams indicated where and in how long a block was going to land! It was really fun to look around searching for blocks without a beam while also taking into account the block you're standing on :)

The music was pretty good, the main menu music as well as the game intro music was almost of the quality that I would actually listen to it (not sure if you made it yourself but kudos anyway).

One last downside is that I thought the main menu and game didn't really have the same look and feel, the main menu felt kind of artsy while the main game had more of a sci-fi feel.

I like the game, although it is a bit too easy. What happened with the crazy dance thing? Seriously?

@ben-pearson Oh, you found our easter egg? hahahhahahaha

Thank you for playing our game :)

Oh, one more thing, i suggest you to play at least until the 5 level, the game isn't that easy.

I was really impressed by the graphics man!! Great work!!

It's interesting but the game lags to much maybe because it needs optimization.
Also, it's difficult to position the player according to the falling blocks because they fall too fast and the space available on the cubes is too much limited to react correctly.

Keep working on games to make even better ;)

@Leonard thanks for playing our game! The goal is to leave the prison by using the blocks, I totally agree that it does need more visual feedback. Regarding the simplicity, I also agree, we wanted to add more type of blocks and mechanics but we didn't had enough time to do so :/

@bobismijnnaam thanks for playing and for the valuable feedback. We have taken into account every suggestion that you gave, we do need to improve the flow of the game with some more per-level tweak and additional mechanics such as more than one type of box (perhaps explosive ones, trampoline, ammo-box etc).

Thanks for playing it @Bhavin , @malobil and @LeoRototo !

@LeoRototo , yeah, we need to add more complexity to it, just increasing the speed for each level isn't a good design method to increase it. Thanks for the feedback!

@Ben-Pearson Thanks for the feedback and for playing it. We do need to add more complexity to it to improve the flow, the actual method to increase the difficulty is to increase the box spawn speed, which isn't nearly enough to make an interesting flow curve.

LOL, we didn't expect that someone would find our little easter egg that fast xD sorry if it was an awkward moment, we added it because we weren't able to fix the bug that triggers it and the sound of the bug remembered us of tap dance, since we never added an easter egg to a game we thought it would be a fun thing to do, we laughed a lot while implementing it.

@visumecadroide thanks for playing and for the feedback, there are some tweakable graphic options in order to improve the performance, unfortunately as it is the player can only tweak it in the laucher (which he still don't know how well the game wil run).

definitely, we will keep workign on them in order to improve ourselves :)

A cool idea, I've played similar games on 2D but never in 3D. The controls were a bit awkward at times though, and I kept getting pushed off blocks.

An interesting submission. I was not necessarily hooked on the design department (graphics, music, etc.) and I'm sure this side of things could have been adressed more intensely. Especially music. At the same time, the theme and genre mix is very interesting and there is a lot room for improvement. Overall it's an interesting game :)

Good job! Cool game!

I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.

I hope you continue with the project.

Good job! It looks very well.
Some things I think that you could improve:
- The menu graphics that contrast with the looks of the gameplay.
- The music volume is too low compared with the sound effects.
- Some context about why you are escaping the forcefield would give more purpose to escape.
Keep on!

A solid entry! I could imagine the game getting expanded with different types of cubes, but it's fine this way for a jam game. Also I didn't notice the button after getting out of the "box" initially, haha.

I think I'd probably avoid using ammo limitation of any kind in such a game, but then again you probably had your reasons (something like a casual way to win found during playtesting); that said, I'd at least increase the ammo on level 1, since most players wouldn't abuse mechanics the moment they start playing normally anyways.

Good job and keep at it!

@MacDoom Hey man, thanks for the feedback, and yeah, we are looking foward to implement about all these points you've listed to us, we should do this when the gamejam ends :D

Good job! :)

Nice game design!

The thing that comes to mind is that moving and jumping doesn't look natural to me, maybe a little laggy. Don't know how to explain. But good game!

The conce't isn't very unique to me, but it was fun to play! The colored lasers indicating blocks falling was a nice touch. I wish the blocks were significantly bigger, since it was easy to overshoot and walk off by accident. The fanfare music made me laugh because it was so loud, though it really should probably be softer.

Great game! Interesting concept and fun to play. My only criticism is the sound effects didn't really seem to fit the mood of the game.

@arche-san OH, you found our surprise? hahahaha

This is a lot like one my old games, but way more polished! It's a pretty decent time waster, although it gets repetitive after a couple of levels. The font you chose is a little weird, since it looks like it belongs in a horror game.

It'd be cool if it had different cubes with different effects and maybe some powerups.

I wasn't that impressed when I started but once I got to about level 3 or 4 it got a bit trickier and way more fun! Good job, I definitely would start it at a higher difficulty but I enjoyed the look and the simple goal!

I very like this escape game. Probably need more complicated mechanics or something to make game more difficult

Nice concept. I felt that it might have been fun to manipulate the blocks some more. Maybe move them or lift them or something. It was pretty fun nonetheless!

Hi!

Nice entry but I was unable to check it more then a few minutes.

Somewhere at the middle of the second level the game lagged and caused a blue screen of death. Anyway who care about optimiation during the game jam? :)

Actually the game is good, you did a really nice work.

I do not think that genres you picked are really incompatible together. At least they are already combined in Portal, but anyway you did it in your own style. :3

Also watched Ben Pearson playing your game, is that a Riverdance video hidden in the wall? xD
