"I'm just going to play one last game before I go" *3 hours later* "I won!"

OMG man, this is the most fun game I've played all LD38! My only complaint is that you can downgrade parts (beetle thingies to shooters), which artificially doubled the difficulty of this game because I'd lose my top tier gear out of nowhere because the bug I just killed dropped it's head right onto mine! Or I'd accidentally run over a shooter head. Also, the only way I could win was to exploit the lack of despawning loot, and stockpile heads so that if (read: when) I lose mine in battle, I could (in most cases) run back for a new one.

I'm betting on this to hit top 5 in at least 1 category! But you'd better get some more reviews!

I just read your bio, "I’m flyingbear AKA George Fan. I once made a game called Plants vs. Zombies". Well shit... no wonder your game is so damn good.

This game was a ton of fun and I loved how there was a lot of parts to evolve into. I think you surely know how to design a good game(I mean, you even made Plants vs Zombies...). Great job and Thank you for submitting this game.

Basically, a fun little quick game! Reminded of most arcade games I've played.

This is one of my top ten for most fun, it had a cool idea and cool gameplay mechanics. Well done!

Really fun little game, although it was a bit hard to control your bug. Perhaps make it follow your cursor instead of turning with the arrow keys to make it a bit easier.

Nice little spore-like game, I feel like controls could be more fluid (getting stuck on walls is a bit of a problem) and losing your head should probably let you die. Really fun game though, nice job.

I don't know why but the game ran in slow motion for me... It was like less than half the speed of the gif on the top of this page...

But even so, I spent a long time playing it. There were so many things to evolve to... Really nice!

Really well made!
It's amazing how it feels so simple and yet engaging and fun.
It's the entry I played the most this LD!

It's pretty hard though!

I also had a bug multiple time, when I lost my head, I could get stuck against a block. It happened 2 times and the only thing I could do was restart the game :/

Congratulations for that anyway! =)

Nice entry! I like the part when you defeat enemies and use their abilities. Controlling is smooth and comfortable, but sometimes I got myself stuck into the stone. And I liked the music. Overall it's very, nice work!

I really wanted to like this game a lot, there's so much that's good about it! The art's really nice, the concept works really well and the game is generally fun to play.

However, not being able to recover your head once it's been removed is extremely frustrating! Especially considering how every head is just as vulnerable as the next. Mightn't it have made sense to always remove segments from the back first?

Either way, wandering around without a head and trying to kill my bug so I could start again really broke the flow of the game for me.

That (unfortunately big, for me) issue aside though, it's a really great idea for a game and really fun--just needs a bit of ironing out on the design side!

Keep it up!

Very, very cool gameplay idea. I really like how the bugs got expanded and you gain or lose abilities.

This is a clever concept. Great entry, keep up the great work!

I love this kind of game, and despite being LD, this one absolutely holds up regardless!

It was challenging, but whenever I lost, I felt like if I just played a little better I could have survived, and every time I got back to that point I managed to overcome the challenge, which was a great feeling!

Normally I delete LD games once I've finished them, but this one is staying in my collection :)

I loved the variety of the bugs, I was eaten by one with a huge mandible thing, I found it quite hilarious =)

Pretty entertaining stuff here. The music was very fitting, and sounds like something done by someone with a little more experience with that, so good stuff there. Game controls were pretty solid, and I didn't really have to guess too much at which buttons did what. Didn't quite get as far as being able to upgrade stuff, but still enjoyed it nonetheless. Definitely one I might keep around to play later.

I loved the concept, I did however get very frustrated with the head being knocked off which meant I was pretty much boned the moment I took any damage there. I don't know if there is some kind of hidden control scheme for when you have no pincers, but if there is it might need to be better explained. Solid music, I had it stuck in my head for a bit after the game ended.

I love this! I played it the most of all the ludum dare games I played, its so fun! There probably should be to get a new head when you lose yours, there is also a bug (ha!) that when you hit the wall you cant get away from it.

Overall its awesome and so fun!

Oh turns out I downloaded the source when it was originally available! I really love your Battle Bugs game I hope this gets through to you. Is it ok if I mod the source code of Battle Bugs and distribute it for free on my itch.io page?

Some of the game mechanics are downright annoying. Imagine yourself with top of the line parts, and then you kill another bug, and a peashooter spawns on top of you, replacing your head. It feels cheap and frustrating, and it makes you lose your will to push on. There should be a way to prevent losing your end game abilities to crappy starters. It's a good thing it's a free game.
