Phaeton by incobalt

[raw]
made by incobalt for LD 38 (COMPO)

This is a short adaptation of a cursory glance at the myth of Phaeton, the son oh Helios who nearly destroyed the world, and the hypothetical planet that the myth was probably referring to. In this game, take on the role of the often overlooked Pluto who must do everything to prevent being hurtled into the sun (and avoid being smashed to bits by asteroids).

========Controls========

Controls are explained in the game, but generally: WASD or Arrow keys to move (strafe controls) W and D or up and down can also be used to scroll conversations. Mouse to look around and pivot on a planet if you're orbiting it. Click advances some screens, but is mostly for launching off a planet you're orbiting. Escape quits out of the game.

(Your Mac build works great.)

I love this. I love this so much. A planetary walking simulator that tells an actual story, with GREAT atmosphere. From a graphics and mechanics standpoint it's simplistic, but that droney music just totally sells it for me.

I AM SO IMPRESSED WITH THIS SILLY PIECE OF ART. YOU ARE AWESOME. Fives in all categories to you from me, except for a couple (I'll keep you guessing which).

Really different, I like it. Sad little Pluto, nobody wants to listen to him.
Controls felt like they could have been a bit smoother, felt pretty rigid for a planet, but that's a minor thing.
There was a bit of a flickering of being lit, but I guess that's because sometimes stuff blocks the light from the sun. Makes sense, but looks a bit odd. I'm not sure how to improve that, as it's logical that something flying between you and the sun blocks the light, but just thought I'd mention it.

Story was good, concept is great, nicely done!

Thanks! The flicker is simply from lighting and the fact that everything is on the same plane, so everything gets in the way of the lighting (and there's 2000 asteroids, so...). Glad you liked it :)
