Litur Teningur by Vinterskog
Litur Teningur is a calm, otherworldly, relaxed, recreational voxel-based first-person 3D match 3 sandbox game. Try to say that quickly a few times.
This is my first entry to Ludum Dare and I'm very glad I finally made it. :)

Instructions
WASD - Move
Space - Jump
Left mouse button (LMB) - Paint
Right mouse button (RMB) - Scan
Mouse wheel - Select color
At the bottom of the screen you see your color inventory. In the beginning you have 10 blobs of each color. Use your mouse wheel to cycle through your colors.
Aim at uncolored blocks and press LMB to color them. Press RMB on colored blocks to make them transparent so you can see (kinda) what's behind them.
Whenever you color a block, you lose one blob of color. You gain new blobs by connecting blocks of the same color.
If you connect at least 3 blocks (ie. their faces touch) they will vanish and you get one blob of color per block destroyed. Your score will also increase depending on how many blocks you destroyed (the more you destroy at once, the better).
You lose the game if you have no more color blobs left, or if you fall out of the big cube of cubes you're in.
There is no win condition. The point of the game is just to relax and raise your personal highscore. :)
Have fun!
Notes
o Generating the world may take a few moments so please be patient.
o As for the builds below, I was only able to test the Windows builds. For OSX and Linux, I just trusted Godot's exporter. Judging from comments so far, they seem to work fine though. :)
o The HTML5 build did not work at all. Unfortunately.
o Latest post-compo builds will be available here: https://vinterskog.itch.io/litur-teningur (do NOT uses those for rating, but ONLY the compo builds below!)
Tools Used
- Godot Engine 3.0.2

Found it a little difficult to see which colour I had selected, other than that, great
great idea to do a First Person match 3 game, I would love to have a paintball gun when shooting the boxes but I understand the time restriction. Good job :)
@shoj92 Yep, should have added an alternative way to choose colors. :/
i had the self imposed goal of getting to the top
had some falls along the way but i did it, felt great
Well done !!
Let's get the "bad" things out of the way first: *"You fell out of the sky"*. My colour deficiency also made it ridiculously difficult to distinguish between green and yellow, but naturally, YMMV. :)
The game is well made, and is certainly interesting, though seemingly light on mechanical complexity and any outstanding goals. The audio fits quite nicely as well.
I'd suggest ~~using shades of green and yellow that don't look the same~~ adding some form of gravity-reversing mechanic to really screw with player's perceptions of direction. It'd also help with the cases of finding myself on the bottom of a hole, one tile away from doom, which unfortunately happened more frequently than I'd like.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that you get bonus points for Norse coolness. :P
@lumos I was aware of the problems people with color deficiency might have playing the came. Couldn't really come up with a good solution unfortunately. I'll look into how that could be alleviated in the post-compo-verson. Norse coolness all the way (even though I'm German)! :D
This is a really cool concept and I love the minimalist look, but as-is there's just not much motivating the player to continue.
This is one or two ideas away from being fantastic, but regardless of that: I enjoyed my time with this a lot!
I notice that there doesn't seem to be any regeneration of blocks. On one hand, that makes the game difficult. But on the other hand, it makes climbing impossible after a certain point.
Also, because you are limited to the first person perspective, you only have the options immediately around you. That's part of what makes the game unique, but it also means that, if your immediate surroundings are sub-optimal, you're stuck, and may have no option to progress upwards away from your inevitable death.
I guess I'd have to spend more time in the game to figure out if these are game-breaking problems, or if they're just initial annoyances that I encountered.
Either way, you're implementation looks solid, from a player perspective. And the simplicity of the game is a wonderful thing. Good job with this game.
I had some difficulties judging depth and actual physical structures of block formations because the lack of shading. Everything was flat shaded so obviously everything just looked flat. Wasn't that huge of a hurdle though because there was no time pressure or any other real dangers not allowing you to inspect your surroundings very carefully.
Would have wanted a better way to change paint colors. For example, the scan tool could be made to double as an eyedropper tool so you could just pick up colors straight from the walls with RMB.
That's about all I've got to criticize about. Maybe adding some more structure like starting with a smaller world which you would beat with a certain score and could then proceed to a bigger one. But that might be taking it to a different more puzzle like direction than the one you intended.
Anyways, good job and welcome to the LD!
I don't like how you can fall and get a game over, I don't think it goes well with the point of the game (to relax). Aside that, it was an enjoyable experience. Good job!
