Forky by Nolic0321

[raw]
made by Nolic0321 for LD 42 (JAM)

Forky is a "Forklift Simulator" where you need to unload cargo coming in and load cargo going out! Trucks requesting cargo only have so much space for their load and they need certain cargo to so be careful! I wanted to attempt to have mechanics that would "simulate" how interactions in a warehouse work (and would love a whole getting out of the lift mechanic) but decided to go a bit more cutesy and give the forklift a name. If you like the game let me know and I can make it a full fledged game with an actual character Forklift (Forky) instead of just a bunch of Unity Assets! ENJOY!

Mechanics

Drive your fork into boxes to "load" them on your fork! Drive a loaded box into the self or into the shipping truck to unload the box! (Currently cannot load a "selved" box)

Controls

W - Drive forwad

S - Drive Backward

A - Turn Left

D - Turn Right

Q - Raise Fork

E - Lower Fork

Tools Used

  • Unity
  • Bosca Ceoil
  • Qubicle

Known Bug

  • Requester truck will drive off with you in it when you complete a request...just gotta alt+f4 till I link the completed version here later :)

Not Yet Implemented

  1. Timer on the trucks
    • A time that would speed up pushing out cargo from the receiving truck
    • A timer that would for the shipping truck to leave (to help keep the player moving "effeciently"
  2. Picking up cargo from the shelf
  3. Upgrade system
    • Faster driving speed
    • Growing "shelf" space
    • Large "warehouse"
  4. Varying Cargo
    • Varying sizes of cargo
    • Special cargo types
      • Fragile - Cannot be stacked
      • Volitile - Can explode if collided too hard
  5. End State
    • The current "end state" is "there are so many boxes the game freezes up".
    • What I would like to have is that if you miss a % of your quota (determined by the request truck) you get fired

I also had a ton of other ideas that I had to scrap due to time (as it usually goes with these things) If this game is well received I may implement the items above and turn it into a full fledged game but it was nice to actually complete something with sound and some solid mechanics! Definitely learned a ton from this jam!

Very cute game. It would be cool, if boxes that you push inside the truck, with the box you are currently carrying, would also be counted immediately as loaded.

Thanks @andreas-roschal! That would be nice but I wanted to try and simulate the "picking" process that a warehouse goes through so...you would just be shoving a whole bunch of boxes together because you would need to enter into the warehousing system "I am taking X box from Y shelf and loading into Z truck"

Granted I may add that as a special power or something :) It would be a benefit when there isn't a ton of boxes but a major detrement if the "warehouse" is soo full that boxes are just flowing into the other truck ;p

Cool little game. Once I got the shipping truck full, it took off with me still on it and I fell into oblivion and could not continue playing the game.

Overall very fun game, and very smooth execution! The game is really fun. It's very satisfying movement and putting the boxes into the truck is great. It does match the picking process in a warehouse as well, so great theme.

I wish I could push the boxes in and they counted as completed. Maybe when you grab a box in the truck, you don't have to go outside the truck and back in for it to count.

Great work!
