Don't be Greedy! by Compufreak
Sooo, I got to an end on my first Ludum Dare and the first game I ever finished :) Please try it out and leave an honest opinion.
Warning!
The browser-version of this game only works in Firefox. I'm sorry for that, but it's a limitation of the current stable release of the GoDot-Engine. I added Windows, OsX and Linux X11-builds, but I could only test Windows. Please try what works for you and do not use any other browser than Firefox. Sorry Sorry Sorry
Basic concept
- Basic mechanics like Classic Donkey Kong
- In addition, you can select items on the beginning of each level, but:
- Each item increases your weight and will slow you down and make your jumps smaller- the more you have, the worse it is
This is how it looks

Tools used
- Godot Engine
- Aseprite
- Bfxr
I might write a bigger post-mortem sometime soon, but right now I'm totally wasted xD
I hope you have fun with my little game!
Best Regards & thanks for this amazing event,
Compu

Mechanics are fine, just that the difference in weight could be a bit larger, and the basic jump could be a bit higher for my personal taste (and lack of skill). I'm a bit sad that picking the gatling gun is too greedy to complete any of the levels. :D
One thing that threw me off for quite a while is the sliding mechanic in Level 2. I was expecting to always slide a bit, but when landing a jump without holding a movement key, the character stops immediately. Since I expected to continue sliding, I always pressed the opposite direction of the jump to slow down the slide after landing. But since the character did not slide by itself after the landing, I immediately walked off the platform that I just jumped on.
Soldier on! Also make sure to keep an eye on the Mini-LDs between the main events, they have pretty interesting themes and approaches sometimes as well!

Add some more SFXs to the post-compo and it will get a lot better.
Tested in Firefox and it works great.
I still like the concept, and might either improve the current game or create a new (probably side scroller) game with those item mechanics - that would be a great opportunity to try out Godot 3.0 xD
There seems to be an issue, when carrying all 3 items, it becomes the worst since the game can't be completed.
Try working around those features to make them at least harder, but not impossible. peace
Could use some more polishing. But hey, it's your first Ludum Dare. Nice!
keep up the good work :)
I agree that the controls could need some more fine-tuning and the items definitely would have needed more balancing... Unfortunately the time ran out - but there will be more from me in the future, it's quite satisfying to make a game from the ground :)
It's waaaay too dificult though.
BTW - it works great in chrome so not sure what's about with that firefox only :)
