Super Slaughter Dungeon by NNNIKKI

[raw]
made by NNNIKKI for LD 40 (COMPO)

1.png 3.png You are a cool dude firing your gun next to a crystal. The crystal heals you but it can also be destroyed by the enemies coming from above. You need to defeat the enemies and gather points, but the more points you have, the more enemies spawn and the harder they get. There are also powerups which can replenish your health, give you extra damage or max health, or restore the crystal's health. Enemies also kill themselves after time, however they don't give you points for that, so be quick and kill them first! Programs I used: GameMaker Studio 2 Desktop, Paint.NET, Bosca Ceoil

Reminds me of Super Crate Box! Cool game, needs a bit more polish but given the amount of time you had, it's not bad. Was surprised how many enemy types you had!

Nice game overall. I found strange that the shadow around the screen hide a bit the HUD. Plus, I felt that you could stay at the bottom and wait for the ennemies to come suicide under your fire :p Apart from that, I had a cool moment, the ennemies changing and getting stronger as you score was a nice idea too. Good job ! :)

Interesting little game that fit the theme well of course. I had fun playing this game. As per the previous comment, it could use some polish but that is what these Jams are about - sometimes there just isnt time for polish!

**What i liked:** Simplicity and fun of the game, easy controls, easy to understand.

**What i liked less:** The sounds and music were overbearing a little but you provided the ability to mute those so not a big deal.

Well done on your entry!

I'm impressed by the amount of stuff you managed to get in this game in so little time :)
I'll give you a bit of critical feedback.
I felt like I had to stay in the bottom of the screen all the time in order to kill the monsters. Also there were a lot of stats in the corner but I didn't really feel like they mattered a lot to the way I was playing (my weapon did change etc. I noticed that). Not a huge fan of the music.

The game crashed whenever I died. Otherwise, nice concept, but with the enemies not leaving the screen or dying on their own, I haven't found much ability to make a comeback once the stronger enemies get to the bottom. You have to follow them down to protect the crystal, and by the time they're dead, new enemies have already gotten to the bottom, so you're stuck.

indeed, it really looks like supercrate box. The idea of a continuously firing gun looks promising. However, there is on issue once a monster has reached the bottom, you are forced to stay there most of the time.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm gonna make enemies kill themselves after some time. It's a good idea.

Quite a fun game, but I really disliked the audio (sorry!) it was killing my ears.

I used this beautiful sound maker called [ChipTone](http://sfbgames.com/chiptone/?s=eNpjYJJY7_SHkcnumlYbAxDUN4BIhlVMHMJ59f_t_zP6_YYIOopDaJ8zEDpyBiofRqulQQ1hX2dsxDARyLD_DxGB0UQIMKDyYWbC7Kz_D4Ly_4F8ABMMMng.) which I really recommend if you're planning on participating the next Jam/Compo! Easy to use and beautiful sounds

All in all the game was pretty good, variety, power-ups, enemies, solid gameplay, nice! Good job.

It's pretty solid game overall but for a fast paced platformer game the controls were a little bit floaty. I guess that jumping could have been snappier. That being said, it's a pretty well-rounded package with rather good gameplay.

Fun and fast paced game, however I didn't really feel the difficulty of the game change much with the points increasing. I stayed mostly on the bottom of the level and didn't quite feel that the powerups made a difference.

I also didn't pay attention to the stats on the side of the screen, they didn't really matter much.
I liked the music, I think it fit nicely with the game, and the art was nice too.

I think if you manage to create a bigger story with progression around the game instead of just this endless mode, it could be good. You could keep the endless mode and have a story mode :)
Congratulations on your work :)

this game was very fun - i really liked the effect when you take damage and how it was almost impossible to see anything - great game

Very good game, was fun to play. Loved the soundtrack and the retro SFX (before I said I couldn't hear them... my speakers were muted). Definitely a fun little mini-game, well done! :)

@pur3 @paulhocker @casper Thanks for the great support!
@saramartins I will add a difficulty setting and perhaps also a story mode.
@everyone I will probably make a shop too.

Neat little game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 40 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJp29JpDY1Y
