TARJECTORIES 2: Mo' Planets, Mo' Problems. by csanyk

[raw]
made by csanyk for LD 40 (JAM)

Tarjectories 2 title screen

As often happens with the theme, I struggled to find inspiration. Rather than bow out of yet another jam, I decided to spend the weekend working on my LD38 entry, TARJECTORIES, which I hadn't touched since the week after LD38, and submit a new version of it for the Jam. I feel like this is a cop-out, but at least I did some game dev this weekend, and I don't feel completely left out. On the bright side, I went through , most of the things I had wanted to do with the project, and did a lot of bug fixes and some polish.

So for LD40, I give you TARJECTORIES 2: Mo' Planets, Mo' Problems.

(In keeping with the theme, I've added more targets and more planets as the game progresses.)

The main differences, apart from that there are now up to 5 planets per level, are that the scoring system has been considerably tweaked, and the dashboard has been tweaked. It is otherwise much the same game that the original was. Under the hood I did a lot of bug fixes and code polish. This was also my first LD project that I've used with github, so if you really want to see all the changes, just check out the commit history.

GamePlay

Damn. Simple and Funny. Second shot hit my self...

Do you get anything out of getting points.?
Is there a level up, or something.?

@JesperSB: points are points. You play for score.

The scoring system works like this:

Indirect hit: 500 points
Direct hit: 1000 points
Consecutive direct hits: 1000 * 2^N
End of level bonus: 1000 for every shot under Par
Perfect bonus: ????? for completing a level with all direct hits and no misses

Hmm. Bitdefender is getting paranoid about it and erased the exe...

Simple, effective and entertaining! I think it is only marginally related with the theme, but for sure you did a nice job!

@vfabien21 that sometimes happens with games made with GameMaker. I promise there's no malware in the .exe.

I loved the concept and simplicity. It made me little annoyed sometimes at the end of a level when I was just shooting endlessly trying to hit that one target.

Simple and funny, perfect for a Jam. Keep working on this idea, you might find some really cool features. Also I miss a little more representative theme, loved the idea although!

@csanyk, ah, I trust you. But now I have to teach bitdefender not to erase the exe... So, this is linked to gamemaker. Good to know.

This was awesome, it got a bit addictive trying to chain perfect hits. I wasn't a big fan of the audio, but it wasn't hard to look past it and find something fantastic.

Cool game. I always liked this kind of physics based shooters :) My only issue is that you cannot destroy more than one target with one single shell. Otherwise I can imagine myself spening quite a bit of time with this.

I went to lvl 12 before discovering this game actually have a gameover condition :D Got really surprised when it happened. I spent much more time than expected on this game, I love the fact that planet rotation keep you from adjusting a specific poser and angle with ballistic determinism

Fun clever mechanic. It's enjoyable to play with the physics of the bullets to hit the targets. However, when the planets are far apart it takes forever to hit the target since you have to wait for the planet to turn all the way around before your shots can escape your planet's gravity. It would be a lot better I think if all the planets were close together. Also the shots would hit pretty often even if they landed nowhere near the target.
Otherwise, great entry definitely enjoyed this.
