Life Is A Balance by finbobby123

Image 3.png Image 1.png Image 2.png Took a while but its finally done. We were busy most of the weekend so I'm surprised we actually finished it. This is our first finished game and it was rushed at the end so we are open to all constructive criticism. Thanks, Ben, Finian, and Rohan.

I liked the link with the theme (the more health you have the worse it gets as you become slower). The game could be improved by adding some more graphical assets, a less repeated audio track, some custom UI, maybe a knockback when the player is hit by a disk.

I liked the speed depending on your life. It fits well with the theme.

But it lacks a little part of surprise.
Maybe some funny power ups easily findable and randomly spawn can energize the game.

@rob-white we wanted to try and add a knock back but only just ended up getting the enemies in the game. We were trying to get them to pathfind but we ended up just getting them how they are now as a last ditch attempt. A custom UI would have been nice but again we ran out of time. Audio was messed up and played way to fast and we have no clue how to fix it. Thank you very much for your suggestions and it’s something to take into account next Ludum Dare

@vieruz thanks for the idea. There are two health pads somewhere in the game that we added last minute. We were thinking of adding some power ups but never got round to it. Thank you for your suggestions. We will try and add something like that next Ludum Date.

Thanks @zax I’m going to check out everyone’s game who commented later but can’t right now. I’ve had a look and it looks far better than ours. I’m just gonna day that we weren’t going for graphics :)

Simple but effective graphics, nice choice of colors. I like the use of the theme, but perhaps some clear end goal for the player would be good. Audio was, as you said, too fast, but I understand there isn't much time to tweak/fix everything :)

Great work! I liked the mechanic of having more health made you slower. Nice job!

neat game! I also like how you speed up after getting hit, good way to balance difficulty.

Great mechanic to choose between an healty slow character or a speedy fragile one ! It merit a little bit of polishes, but the concept is very elegant :)

I was thinking about what @hatchet said : a good way to push this idea would be to make a level design which take advantage of your mechanic. Some obstacles forcing the player to balance between health and speed ?

Thanks for all the feedback and responses everyone! We really appreciate all the comments and suggestions.

@zblah and @hatchet we were planning on having a better end goal and probably level design however we spent a while agreeing on stuff and getting the basics. We ended up running out of time just going with survive as long as you can. Thanks for the feedback.
