Welcome ! Paylife (Ludum Dare 44 Theme: Your life is currency) is built in plain HTML5/JavaScript with a framework I am developping.

I challenged myself creating this game in only 24h instead of the regular 48h !

Rules :

  • it is a mouse-only game
  • you have 60s to break your best score

  • clicking on cards cost life

  • cards increase life per second releasing hearts
  • catch hearts to gain life

  • when an heart flies away, you lose 1 life

I'd like to :

  • add sfx

This was my second Game Jam, so I hope you'll like this game. Thank you for your support.

Cool and simple game. Good job. The graphics look neat.
Small advice: I guess you didn't have mobile play in mind as the hitboxes are hard to hit when I play on the phone.

Good job overall.

I like that the difficulty goes up while you're making it easier to get your score up faster. Neat way to balance the game. The art is nice too! Great job!

Tweak this for mobile and you might have a hit.

Very easy to get into with small, but meaningful decisions.

Enjoyable clicker, I gave it a couple of tries, but I could't exceed 300 points.

Simple game, great for boredom. Good job!

Nice game! I feel I need an auto-clicker for it... hearts fly too fast

Got 245, playing on my phone. Fun micro game, very contained and to the point. The graphics are nice and unique, adds a bit of character. Some sounds would be awesome.

I actually got to this game from your Github repo, thanks for linking back . Very interested in the idea of Theatre.

Great job! And you were able to pull this off just during 24hrs? Impressive. Truth is that the sounds would be a great touch, but given the timeframe I completely understand. But you were able to put in the theme, challenge and replayability. Great Job!

It's a good game, but maybe creating something that doesn't allow you to eat something when it kills you or when you buy an upgrade and doesn't move the mouse you can't buy another thing for a couple hundred miliseconds would help not accidently buying an upgrade you didn't wanted, but that is the only complain, the game is very well made.

Great job, bro ^^

Really well done and executed concept. The art is also great and with few tweaking you might have something very well polished. This is a good take on a clicker game but revisited. Great job!

Interesting and original concept even if I couldn't relate immediately the objects on the cards with their "cost". But I liked a lot the instruction you sketched on the chest to help. The mechanic is flawless to me. Impressive work in such a short time but yes, sound is missed. Would have been nice!

Really nice game ^^ I liked the graphics and it was fun to play :) Sound would have been maybe pretty nice but it was still pretty good and seemed also pretty polished. Good job ^^

I agree with a lot of what's been said. Super impressed you made it within a day and using your own framework. I think it could make a fun mobile game. It has some self-balancing that's really cool with the increasing cost and the increasing rates of hearts which can come back to bite you if you get greedy. I feel like because buying too many things made hearts fly so fast towards the end, I generally ended up avoiding the bottom cards for a good portion of the game. Maybe a way to keep those options interesting would be to allow you to buy upgrades that weren't just increased release of hearts. For example: maybe an upgrade could occasionally release items that gave you more time, or golden hearts that were worth more, etc. Something to keep users making decisions with the cards throughout the whole game. I also wasn't sure what exactly made up my final score. Great start and could easily be a fun, addicting mobile game.

@tddawson I am pleased that you got the "greedy" part of this game !

The all point of this game was to make people think of their decisions and how their greed impacts their future. More you buy stuff, more the game is supposed to make you feel bad, but you'll still want to retry more and more to get the highest score, whatever the part of you is lost during your life.

The score is calculated like so :

+2 points for each heart you got

-1 point for each heart lost

Thank you for your support ;)
