Point & Shoot by Temmy

[raw]
made by Temmy for LD 41 (COMPO)

* Update: Turning this into a proper game *

Early days yet, but lots of progress going on over on Twitter: @Hi_ImTemmy

Adventure games are back and now they're armed to the teeth!

This is more of a proof of concept than an actual game. Time was already precious, but I spent all of Saturday night (no kidding) fighting with Unity and then had to re-architect code which meant I didn't get nearly as much world building in as I hoped. Still, was a great weekend. Yeah!

LD41 9.gif

What do you get if you take a point and click adventure game and then smash it into a FPS?

Ladies and gentlemen I give you a whole new game genre; the point & shoot adventure game.

This is a incredibly short experience. So short I'll be surprised if you take any breaths while playing it.

Controls

WASD to move

Mouse to aim & look

Left Mouse Button to fire

Numbers to change ammo type

Tell me what you think in the comments or drop me a line on Twitter @Hi_ImTemmy. I'm curious if this is an idea worth taking forward and would love to know what you think.

Till next time!

I loved this! That voice acting was great, and the word shooting effect was wonderful. Good job!

Short but sweet. Would love to see this expanded into a bigger game. Definitely would make a fun puzzle game.

Very interesting idea, hope to see it one day with a bit longer story

Argh I can't get past the elevator. I "use" the call button but it never seems to work. What am i doing wrong?

@frostdragonliz Are you talking about the cube on the bottom? That's a chocolate bar.

There a shelf next to your desk and there's something on top that you'll need.

Edit: Whoops misunderstood, @temmy gave a correct explanation

Really good use of the theme. I liked how you used the level geometry to hide the key.

A little short, maybe (I guess I beat the game?), but I love the game concept. You really should make this into a full game.

I was very curious about the hardboiled noir problem sleuth story and then it just ended...
Oh well.

The UI was really funny. I like how the box shapes work, because the story is told by examining things and talking to people. So Maureen being a box, and characterised by dialogue is actually genius!

Think of it more of a proof of concept than a game. Would have loved to have made it longer and still might if folks think it would be a interesting enough spin on adventure games!

@frostdragonliz Maureen won't let you use the elevator. Distract her with something!

@Temmy Oops! I feel stupid now considering there was only one item to use 😆
Loved it, shame you didn't get time to add more content as my only criticism is that it is too short.

Oh my, that is perfect! I'd love to see a full game based on this, I'd even pay money for that. The humor is wonderful, thank you for making my day better!

The idea is super fun, and the voice acting was really good. To bad that the game was so short.

Cool game and idea. The style reminds me Jazz Punk. Would really enjoy to play a full game with this concept

A very cool interpretation of the theme! As a lover of point and click adventures I thought this was pretty good. Obviously quite short but a lot of room for further expansion. The walking sfx was a bit loud, very nice overall though.

Idea is interesting, but confusing - I spent good time finding out what is ringing, never expected it to be phat pink thing. I didn't want to shoot it. Other than that cool game (I managed to finish it)

@mintarcade Yeah, I didn't have time to actually make any proper art or models so had to just use Unity primitives. Thanks for giving it a go!

@theviraldragon Talk to Maureen (to the right of the button). You need to give her something.

Cute game! Great mechanics. I would never have thought to make a game like this. If you would add more, and add better graphics, you could probably put this on Steam or something.

This was actually super fun and entertaining.
Nice voice acting too.

Great idea and concept xD definitely wouldn't think about point and click + fps mix :D haha

would like to have some sound effects for shooting though, but other than that, awesome entry

Well, I think you may have invented a new genre 😜. The idea is very interesting and you should keep developing it. You can consider this as a prototype, take the feedback, and make a whole games out of this concept. Nice work!

This was surprisingly fun. I loved the "not applicable here" responses and the voiceover was great. I would've liked to see a bit more, but 48 hours flies by! Really nice job.

@jharler Oh man, you and me both! If only I had struggled with Unity so much on the Saturday night I think there might have been an almighty three rooms, maybe four! Ooooo.

This was actually so fun that I got disheartened there wasn't anymore after the elevator. I'm hoping you continue this and make it into something we can see on steam! Great job :)
🎤 Temmy
27. Apr 2018 · 10:00 UTC
@JustinM Thanks! I was equally disheartened playing it and was thinking

"Man, couldn't the person making it have made it bigger? That's too short!"

...to which point I then said...

"Very true! I'd love this to be a much bigger game. I miss adventure games. They were wonderful and made me laugh."

...then I said...

"Absolutely. So we should make it a bigger game, right? I mean, everyone else seems to like it as well, even if they mistook Maureen for a filing cabinet."

...

"That's not their fault. She does use the exact same model just with a different colour."

"But she likes paperwork right?"

"So it's kinda fitting in a way..."

"Yeah. Just what I was thinking."

"Anyway how about we make this a proper game. Make a demo, Kickstarter it or use one of those backer-thingy-thingymajigs and then put it up on Steam."

"Now THAT sounds like a awesome plan."

....

I'm definitely going to make it. :)

I really like the concept of the game. The voice acting was great. I wish every word you shot actually had audio. I'd love to see an expanded version of this with art and more rooms. This was neat. Good job.

Short but extremelly interesting experience. I never thought these two genres could be mixed in this way :D Nice humor and situations. Maybe with some time you could deliver more content and explore the idea with puzzles and the like. I really enjoyed it, nice work!

This was actually quite fun and intresting, despite the lack of content. The view bobbing annoyed me a bit, but i got used to it after the first 30 seconds. I really like the concept, and while the game was short, the fun density was high so definetly worth my time

This is a fantastic concept and I would absolutely love to see a full game like this! You've got a real talent for writing the descriptions and dialogue – the description of the storage cupboard made me chuckle :) Despite its short length, it's clear that a lot of hard work has gone into making this. Great job!

funny combination! some weird situations, puzzles could emerge from the bouncing off "action-bullets"!
I'm waiting for the post-compo version if there will be any.
also, it would be nicer to change actions with scroll or right-click or something ;)
