Pucamuc by Mors

[raw]
made by Mors for LD 44 (JAM)

logo.png Pucamuc is a platformer where you control Puck, who wants to get an iFone. The problem is that Puck cannot walk, he can only jump. To make the matters worse, the payment is done by blood, and his only source of blood are chickens and babies.

The game is made by Mors, with music and sounds from Catonator and additional promotional art from irri!

Changelog:

1.0.1: Windows build! Fixed an issue with the HTML5 version where Puck would double jump while holding the jump button. It seems to be an issue with GameMaker and I had to use a workaround so please let me know if it still happens. I've also fixed a part where you'd die by just jumping on a bounce block.

1.0: Initial release.

That was really cool! I got stuck in the secret area above near when the bouncing blocks were introduced and ended up dying from hitting my head too many times on the ceiling spikes. Maybe I was missing a mechanic you get later on? even so it was a lot of fun figuring out creative ways to get into that little nook.

@digigee That seems to be an oversight on my part. I've updated the game fixing that issue, thank you!

Oh, one of the best entries I saw. Music is really pleasing to ear, Graphics is candy and simple and the mechanics are simply great. Unfortunately there are some bugs. Sometimes they are funny and sometimes... ![Capture.PNG](///raw/5f3/31/z/23c97.png) You see :D Anyway, you've done so much for 72h! Great job guys!

I have passed just few levels since I'm not good at arcade games.

What I can say is that you made an amazing game. I can't believe you completed it in 72 hours
Interesting mechanics, beautiful design and sounds..

Great job!

Amazing! Really fun to play, for me the controls felt too sensitive, but I have let a friend play it and he almost won it. Good job!

Loved everything about it. I was kinda stuck for a while on the first tall wall, thinking that I need to kill myself to loose some blood and wight, but at the end, I figured out how to do it :P

Dang, thanks guys so much!!!!

@borys: Does the game get softlocked there or can you get out of that situation?

Pretty solid entry :D
I'm usually not good with those kind of games, but at least I made it to the end ^^
The combination of can only jump and the bouncy blocks can lead to some frustrating moments, but that is part of the essence of such a game, right? XD

Superb entry! The graphics, sounds, and overall presentation is fantastic, though I found the game's movement to be a bit gimmicky at times; it was a breath of fresh air compared to other platformers, and does push the limits of the mechanics it introduces while staying charming throughout!

I'll tell ya, those bounces off the wall can be super punishing. Takes a while to get used to the controlls, but the challenges itself are pretty fun. The amount of life you lose vs the amount you have is forgiving enough that you aren't scared to mess up or try stuff.
I spent an embarrassing amount of time trying to figure out how to move, but that's on me, not the game. :P

This is so frustratingly fun!! I did not manage to finish it, yet. I'll definitely try again later though.
Everything fits together so perfectly, the theme, the music, the humor and the typos. This really has an excellent mood! Great job!!

Okay, this is just hilarious. I love the wacky, bizarre plot and writing. The gameplay is great as well. Only being able to jump puts some unique constraints on you as the player which were fun to work around. I also really like the exploration aspect. Since you don't need to find everything to beat the game, finding secrets and upgrades as well as alternate pathways felt really rewarding. Not to mention the amazing art and sound design. Overall a phenomenal game. Amazing work!

As much as the drinking the blood from the babies is not really my thing, Pucamuc is really nice overall! Feel very clean and polished, the mechanics works really well and the combination with theme is also very well handled! Great platformer you did here! Nice job

Wow!I never expected so much quality content here, the mechanic of jumping is innovative and very well crafted (the difference between pressing right or left on air or before jumping it's sign of that). I would just say that the sound of jumping was quite repetitive, but beyond that my sincere congratulations.

Really fun and solid controls. I love the personality of the main character, really makes the game shine. I raged on trying to get that duck near the start, but that's the whole point I think. The movement is pretty solid except for when I try to line myself up close to an edge. That is a little annoying but other than that, great stuff

Really enjoyed this, the upbeat art style and music contrasts amusingly with the dialog and game mechanics. Fun game, I'm just so terrible at it. Great work!

Ok, this game is terrifying! hahaah and thoroughly enjoyable. What looks initially like a cute lil candy-art platformer turns out to be a gory game haha. I enjoyed the mechanic and found it the right kind of challenge. Really nice entry, plenty to keep me coming back to play more.

I love the color palette and the art style overall is really really good in my opinion. This is really a solid entry for a jam. I like the particle effects and audio is very good. I had a positive experience playing it on web, it was very fluid. Good job!

Overall this was a really solid entry. The music was awesome, the graphics were great, and the gameplay concept was very good. However, I wish there were a few little changes to take some of the frustration out of it. For example, I understand that the character can only move by jumping but when some of the puzzles and navigation require a near pixel-perfect setup it's annoying to have to make a series of several small jumps while just tapping left or right to get into position - so being able to walk very slowly would *really* help but wouldn't compromise on the design vision. Also, I think the game should have a checkpoint at each baby so even if you hit the gameover state you can restart from the last one (or maybe choose any of the baby screens completed so far). This is because I got the first two babies but then while trying and retrying one single challenge I lost all of my blood and hit game over. Have to redo the same content from scratch annoyed me a bit, but then when I was half-way through the game and hit the same problem - just retrying a single punishing single screen cost me +15 blood so I hit game over again, well I had no motivation at all to replay the initial content for a third time just to probably hit the exact same problem over and over again before being able to win. This just sucked all the fun out of what was otherwise one of the best entries I've seen so far (and by a wide margin at that!). I think with a few small edits this game could be utterly amazing :)

The music's amazing, I especially like that funky title screen music! The art is really good as well, very bright and clear. I must say I found the game mechanics a bit frustrating though. I like the idea of paying blood for jumps, but only being able to move by jumping really went against my instincts, and the bounce blocks also seemed really unpredictable to me. Good level design though, and great game overall even if it wasn't necessarily for me.

Nice entry I just found the controls to be very fustrating especially in any parts that had the bouncy tiles. It felt like I didn't have much control at all. I loved the graphics and the story. It got a few laughs out of me.
